Leghemo Advocates Self-Reliance, Economic Empowerment For Southern Ijaw Constituents

Diepreye Abaye Leghemo (DAL), the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, has advocated self-reliance, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment as key drivers of sustainable development in the constituency.

Leghemo said a better Southern Ijaw would be one where residents have access to opportunities to earn a decent living, establish sustainable businesses, acquire relevant skills and provide for their families without depending entirely on external assistance.

He noted that the people of Southern Ijaw were hardworking, resourceful and endowed with enormous potential, stressing that what they needed was improved access to opportunities, resources, training and support to translate their efforts into lasting economic success.

According to him, empowering the people to become economically independent should be a major priority in the pursuit of meaningful development across the constituency.

He called for increased support for youth entrepreneurship, initiatives to strengthen women's businesses, investment in vocational and technical education, and programmes that connect residents to productive employment opportunities.

Leghemo envisioned a Southern Ijaw where young people could transform their skills into thriving businesses, women could expand their trades into sustainable enterprises, and parents could adequately provide for their children through decent and reliable sources of income.

He maintained that development should go beyond providing temporary assistance to equipping individuals with the knowledge, resources and opportunities needed to create wealth and secure their future.

The NDC candidate added that economic empowerment would enable residents to contribute more effectively to their communities while strengthening the constituency's overall economic growth.

“Our goal must be to move our people from struggle to stability, from limited opportunities to greater possibilities, and from dependency to economic independence,” he said.

Leghemo stressed that when individuals and families prosper, communities become stronger, adding that sustainable economic development would create a more secure future for Southern Ijaw.

He called on constituents to support his vision of an economically empowered constituency by participating in the electoral process and voting for the NDC in the House of Representatives election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The candidate said his ambition was to champion policies and initiatives that would enable the people to stand on their own, build sustainable livelihoods and become active participants in the economic development of Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency.
