Aiguobarueghian’s Legislative Record Highlights Bid For Ovia Federal Constituency
Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian’s legislative experience in the Edo State House of Assembly has been highlighted as part of his campaign for the House of Representatives seat for Ovia Federal Constituency under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aiguobarueghian, who served as Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, sponsored a bill in 2023 aimed at strengthening the financial autonomy of the legislature and judiciary.
According to his campaign message, the measure, which was passed into law in 2023, was designed to enable the two arms of government to manage their allocated funds independently, subject to the provisions of the law.
The reform was presented as an effort to strengthen public institutions, promote accountability and enhance their capacity to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
The campaign noted that financial autonomy could help the legislature exercise its oversight functions more effectively and improve its ability to pursue initiatives that address the needs of constituents.
Building on this legislative experience, Aiguobarueghian is seeking to bring his knowledge of lawmaking and institutional governance to the National Assembly, where he hopes to advocate legislation and policies that respond to the needs of Ovia Federal Constituency.
His campaign emphasised the importance of effective representation, people-oriented legislation and grassroots development, arguing that a representative's responsibilities extend beyond occupying public office to include amplifying constituents' concerns and pursuing practical solutions to their challenges.
It further stated that his experience in the Edo State House of Assembly could provide a foundation for contributing to legislative debates, supporting institutional reforms and advocating development initiatives for the constituency.
