Agbebaku Reflects On Leadership, Calls For Accountability and Unity

Rt. Hon. Blessing Sherriff Agbebaku has called on public officeholders to uphold accountability, humility and the highest standards of service, stressing that the true measure of leadership lies in its impact on the lives of the people.

Agbebaku, reflecting on his political journey, noted that although public office is temporary, the responsibility entrusted to leaders leaves a lasting impression on the communities they serve.

According to him, leadership should be measured not by the privileges of office but by the lives touched, the trust honoured and the decisions leaders can defend before God and their conscience.

He acknowledged that political life often comes with competing interests, criticism and difficult choices, urging public servants to remain open to constructive criticism, willing to learn and courageous enough to accept responsibility for their actions.

“No leader has all the answers, and no community should feel that its voice does not matter,” he stated, emphasising the importance of listening to the people and ensuring that their concerns are given due consideration.

Agbebaku also advocated political tolerance and peaceful coexistence, maintaining that differences in political opinions should not become grounds for hostility or division.

He stressed that individuals could pursue their convictions while respecting the dignity of others, adding that beyond party affiliations, leaders and citizens share a collective responsibility to build communities where children can grow with hope, opportunity and peace.

The political leader further challenged public officeholders to engage in regular self-examination, particularly in assessing whether they have listened adequately to the people, acted fairly and utilised the opportunities entrusted to them for the greater good.

“My reflection also brings a personal challenge: Have I listened closely enough? Have I acted fairly? Have I used the opportunities entrusted to me to serve a purpose greater than myself?” he asked.

He expressed gratitude to the people for the confidence reposed in him, while acknowledging that public trust must be sustained through responsible conduct, patience and consistent service.

Reaffirming his commitment to purposeful leadership, Agbebaku prayed for divine wisdom to make the right decisions, humility to recognise areas requiring improvement and the strength to remain faithful to the people he has the privilege of serving.

He concluded by underscoring the need for leaders to remain guided by conscience, accountability and an enduring commitment to the welfare of the people.
