ALGON Chairman, Helen Nnenna Aduga, commends Governor Nwifuru on fiscal discipline, transparency and grassroots development

A three-day capacity-building workshop organised for Local Government Council Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and other key officials across Ebonyi State has ended with commendations for the state government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots administration and promote accountability in public service.
The workshop, which commenced on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, was formally declared open by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The three-day programme provided participants with practical knowledge and perspectives on public-sector administration, financial management, transparency, accountability, security, anti-corruption measures and other critical areas of local government administration.
Speaking at the conclusion of the workshop, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Helen Nnenna Aduga, commended Governor Nwifuru for his commitment to strengthening the capacity of grassroots leaders and promoting responsible management of public resources.

Aduga noted that the knowledge and lessons acquired during the workshop would be translated into concrete actions across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas, with particular emphasis on improving service delivery, responsiveness to citizens and sustainable grassroots development. She said:

“As the Council leaders return to their respective Local Government Areas, the expectation is that the knowledge, guidance and insights gained from the workshop will be translated into purposeful leadership and measurable impact across the grassroots.”.

The ALGON Chairman also emphasised the importance of continuous capacity building for local government officials, noting that effective grassroots governance requires leaders who are adequately equipped to manage public resources and respond efficiently to the needs of their people.

The workshop further reinforced the importance of fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in local government administration, as well as the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders in delivering development at the grassroots.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment by the participating council leaders to apply the knowledge gained to their respective Local Government Areas and contribute meaningfully to the development agenda of the state.
