Omoruyi Facilitates Six Solar-Powered Boreholes Across Egor, Ikpoba-Okha
Work is ongoing on the construction of six solar-powered borehole projects across communities in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas of Edo State, in an intervention aimed at improving access to clean, reliable and sustainable water for residents of the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency.
The projects, facilitated by the member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, are being executed in six communities across the two local government areas.
In Egor Local Government Area, the projects are located at Igbinovia Street, behind Useh Secondary School in Ward 3; Okhokhugbo Community in Ward 2; and Tiper Garage in Ward 4.
In Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, the ongoing projects are located along Old Benin-Auchi Road in Urora Community, Ward 4; Ologbo Town Hall in Ologbo Central, Ward 10; and Omogiavi Street in Oka Community, Ward 8.
The solar-powered technology is expected to provide communities with a more dependable water supply while reducing reliance on conventional electricity and diesel-powered pumping systems.
The intervention adds to a broader range of constituency projects and programmes associated with Omoruyi since his election to the House of Representatives.
Official National Assembly records identify Omoruyi as the representative for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, while records of the House show him participating in legislative proceedings and presenting constituency-related petitions and motions.
His constituency interventions have also included water and sanitation infrastructure. In May 2026, Independent Television and Radio reported the commissioning of projects in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha, including ultra-modern toilet and bathroom facilities with solar-powered boreholes at Evbuotubu and Oregbeni markets, alongside a newly constructed six-classroom block at Ohonre Grammar School.
Beyond physical infrastructure, Omoruyi has pursued initiatives in education, youth development and economic empowerment. Previous reports on his constituency activities highlighted a scholarship programme for public secondary school students, financial support for market women, vocational training and the installation of solar-powered streetlights in communities across the constituency.
In the National Assembly, he has also sponsored legislation seeking the establishment of a Federal Institute of Technology in the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha constituency. The bill was listed in official House documentation as the Federal Institute of Technology, Ikpoba-Okha, Edo State (Establishment) Bill, 2023.
The lawmaker has equally raised issues affecting his constituents on the floor of the House. In July 2023, for instance, he presented a petition concerning alleged issues involving elders of Urumwon community in Edo State, while in February 2024 he presented a petition concerning project allocation in Edo South for legislative consideration.
The latest borehole intervention therefore forms part of a constituency development approach that places basic infrastructure and community needs at the centre of representation.
For residents of the beneficiary communities, access to potable water is expected to provide relief to households, traders, schools and other users who depend on available water sources for their daily activities.
With the projects spread across different wards in both Egor and Ikpoba-Okha, the intervention is also expected to extend the benefits of constituency development beyond individual communities and address basic needs across a wider section of the federal constituency.
Water remains one of the most essential requirements for healthy communities, and the deployment of solar-powered boreholes provides an opportunity to combine improved access to water with renewable-energy technology.
As work continues at the six locations, residents and community stakeholders are expected to look forward to the completion and commissioning of the projects, which would further expand access to dependable water supply across the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency.
