Independence Day: Bibi Calls For Free, Fair Elections In Nigeria

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District, Sunny Aguebor, popularly known as Bibi, has called on Nigerians and relevant stakeholders to use the nation’s independence anniversary as an opportunity to strengthen the country’s democratic process and ensure credible elections.

Bibi, in an Independence Day message, congratulated Nigerians and urged citizens to remain committed to the values of freedom, justice, accountability and democratic participation.

He stressed the importance of conducting free, fair and transparent elections that reflect the genuine wishes of the people, noting that political independence would have limited meaning without a democratic process that allows citizens to freely choose their leaders.

“Congratulations to all Nigerians. We must use this opportunity to conduct proper elections that will reflect the wishes of all Nigerians. Independence without free and fair elections is another level of slavery,” Bibi said.

The Edo South senatorial candidate called on political actors, electoral institutions, security agencies, the media, civil society organisations and voters to play their respective roles in protecting the integrity of the electoral process.

According to him, credible elections remain essential to strengthening citizens’ confidence in government and ensuring that elected representatives are genuinely accountable to the people.

Bibi also urged Nigerians to continue to promote national unity and peaceful democratic engagement, stressing that the country’s future depends on the collective commitment of citizens to democratic values.

He called for an electoral environment where every eligible voter can exercise their franchise without intimidation, manipulation or undue interference.

Bibi reaffirmed his commitment to a Nigeria where the voice of every citizen matters and where elections provide a credible pathway for the people to determine those who represent them.

He congratulated Nigerians once again on the Independence anniversary and called for renewed commitment to building a more democratic, peaceful and prosperous nation.
