Bibi Raises Alarm Over Alleged Conflicting Affidavits, Substitution Dispute In NDC Edo South Ticket

Hon. Sunny “BIBI” Aguebor has raised the alarm over an alleged attempt to substitute him as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bibi, in a statement, alleged that Mrs. Epele Osayuki Asemota, who emerged as the NDC candidate for the Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency during the party’s primaries on May 29, 2026, subsequently swore another affidavit in an attempt to secure the party’s Edo South Senatorial ticket.

He said he was in possession of what he described as Certified True Copies (CTCs) obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Forms EC9 and affidavits which, according to him, raise questions about the validity of the subsequent nomination process.

According to Bibi, the NDC conducted its primaries on May 29, 2026, during which Asemota emerged as the party’s candidate for Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency, while he emerged as the winner of the Edo South Senatorial District primary.

He alleged that Asemota subsequently swore an affidavit on July 6, 2026, which was attached to her nomination documents for the Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency and forwarded through the party to INEC.
Bibi further stated that he submitted his EC9 and supporting affidavit dated June 30, 2026, with his nomination documents also forwarded to INEC.

He claimed that the CTCs issued by INEC reflected Asemota as the NDC candidate for Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency and himself as the party’s candidate for Edo South Senatorial District.

However, Bibi alleged that on August 5, 2026, Asemota swore another affidavit which was subsequently used in an attempt to replace him as the NDC’s Edo South Senatorial candidate.

He described the development as an alleged case of double nomination and unlawful substitution, arguing that he neither withdrew from the Edo South senatorial race nor died, and that no fresh primary election was conducted for the district.

Bibi also raised concerns over what he described as conflicting declarations contained in the two affidavits allegedly sworn by Asemota.
He called on the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the affidavits and the subsequent nomination process, particularly to determine whether any provisions of the Electoral Act or other applicable laws were breached.

Bibi urged INEC to continue to recognise him as the NDC candidate for Edo South Senatorial District, citing the CTC which he said had already been issued by the electoral commission.

He also called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations of perjury, forgery, conspiracy and electoral fraud and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable.

The NDC chieftain further appealed to the leadership of the party to intervene in the dispute and ensure that its nomination process complies with the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.

According to him, relevant security agencies have already been alerted, while legal proceedings have also been initiated before the Federal High Courts in Benin and the Federal Capital Territory.

Bibi urged members and supporters of the NDC across the seven local government areas of Edo South to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities and courts to determine the matter.

He maintained that the Edo South Senatorial ticket was freely won during the May 29 primary and expressed confidence that the relevant legal and electoral processes would resolve the dispute.
