Gov Nwifuru Has Restored Dignity To Ebonyi Workers Through Prompt Salaries, Welfare — Nwedu
Hon. Nwedu Abraham Nwedu, a member of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS), has commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for what he described as a renewed commitment to workers’ welfare, prompt payment of salaries, and improved conditions of service in Ebonyi State.
Nwedu, in a statement made available to journalists, said the administration of Governor Nwifuru had demonstrated that workers deserved to be treated with dignity, adding that regular payment of salaries and attention to employee welfare could significantly improve productivity and morale within the public service.
According to him, timely payment of salaries gives workers greater financial stability and enables them to plan effectively for their families, including meeting responsibilities such as school fees, rent, food, healthcare, and other household needs.
He said teachers, healthcare workers, administrative staff, and other public servants would perform their duties more effectively when they have confidence that their legitimate earnings would be paid as and when due.
Nwedu also commended the administration's attention to pensioners, noting that retirees who dedicated decades of service to Ebonyi State deserve to receive their pensions and other legitimate entitlements with dignity.
He said efforts to address outstanding pension and gratuity obligations would provide relief to retirees and their families, stressing that government has a responsibility to honour those who contributed to the development of the state during their years of active service.
The EBSIRS member further praised the administration for initiatives aimed at improving workers' welfare beyond monthly salaries, including capacity development, healthcare support, and other measures designed to enhance the overall wellbeing of public servants.
He also highlighted the importance of festive support and bonuses, saying additional financial assistance during periods such as Christmas could provide meaningful relief to workers and pensioners and enable families to celebrate with greater confidence.
According to Nwedu, workers' welfare also has a wider economic impact because salaries paid to civil servants circulate through local markets, businesses, transport services, schools, and other sectors of the state's economy.
“When workers receive their salaries promptly, the impact goes beyond individual households. The money circulates through communities, supports businesses and strengthens economic activity,” he said.
Nwedu described Governor Nwifuru as a workers-friendly governor, saying the administration's approach to workers' welfare reflects an understanding that a motivated workforce is essential to effective governance and sustainable development.
He urged public servants to reciprocate the government's attention to their welfare by demonstrating professionalism, dedication, discipline, and commitment to serving the people of Ebonyi State.
Nwedu said the interventions were consistent with the philosophy of the People’s Charter of Needs, which he described as an approach to governance centred on responding to the practical needs and aspirations of citizens.
He expressed optimism that continued attention to workers' welfare, infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, and other sectors would further strengthen the state's development.
Nwedu prayed for God's continued wisdom, strength, sound health, and guidance for Governor Nwifuru as he continues to lead the state.
