Enegide Collins Unveils Development Agenda For Ukwuani Constituency Ahead Of 2027

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Enegide Chukwunalu Collins, an aspirant for the Delta State House of Assembly seat representing Ukwuani Constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has unveiled a development-focused agenda aimed at addressing critical challenges confronting the people of the constituency.

In a statement on what he described as “A Critical Decision on Critical Issues in Ukwuani Constituency,” Collins said the future of Ukwuani would depend largely on the strategic choices made by its people today, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, education, electricity, infrastructure and economic development.

He stressed that the time had come for political leadership to move beyond short-term interventions and embrace a well-structured policy agenda capable of delivering sustainable development and improving the quality of life of residents across the constituency.

Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition

Collins identified youth unemployment as one of the pressing challenges requiring urgent attention in Ukwuani, noting that the constituency has a pool of young people with enormous potential that can be harnessed for economic growth.

He proposed the establishment of vocational and innovation hubs, technology training programmes and accessible seed-funding opportunities to equip young people with practical skills and support them in establishing sustainable businesses.

According to him, empowering youths with the right skills and resources would help transform local talent into productive enterprises while reducing unemployment and strengthening the grassroots economy.

Modernising Educational Infrastructure

The aspirant also placed education at the centre of his proposed development agenda.

He expressed concern over inadequate school facilities and learning resources in some rural communities, proposing targeted renovation of primary and secondary schools, improved learning environments and the introduction of digital classrooms.

He further advocated scholarship pathways for deserving students, stressing that sustained investment in education would provide young people with the knowledge and skills required to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ukwuani.

Expanding Power and Energy Infrastructure

On electricity, Collins identified unreliable power supply as another major challenge affecting households, artisans, entrepreneurs and small businesses across the constituency.

He proposed stronger collaboration with relevant government authorities and private-sector stakeholders to support rural electrification projects and explore off-grid solar solutions for communities that remain underserved.

He noted that reliable electricity would help small businesses operate more efficiently, encourage entrepreneurship and create an environment conducive to local economic growth.

Sustainable Local Infrastructure Development

Collins further identified poor feeder and farm-to-market roads as a major obstacle to agricultural production and commerce in rural communities.

He proposed prioritising the rehabilitation of strategic township roads and farm-to-market routes to improve access to markets, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and strengthen economic connections between communities.

According to him, improving local road infrastructure would not only ease transportation challenges but also enable farmers to access better markets and improve the profitability of their agricultural activities.

A Call for Issue-Based Representation

Collins said the 2027 election should provide the people of Ukwuani with an opportunity to critically assess the programmes, competence and commitment of individuals seeking to represent them.

He maintained that effective legislative representation should go beyond political rhetoric and focus on practical policies, effective advocacy, oversight and strategic partnerships capable of attracting meaningful development to the constituency.

He therefore called on youths, women, community leaders, farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to actively participate in discussions about the future of Ukwuani and support ideas that place the interests and aspirations of the people at the centre of governance.

Collins expressed optimism that with visionary leadership, effective collaboration and a clear development strategy, Ukwuani Constituency can unlock its considerable human and economic potential and build a more prosperous future for its people.
