Delta Moves To Modernise Public Libraries, Expand Digital Learning Access

The Delta State Government has commenced plans to modernise public libraries across the state, transforming them into vibrant knowledge and digital learning hubs to promote education, research, and innovation.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Nyerhovwo Tonukari, disclosed this during an inspection of the Delta State Library headquarters and its branch in Asaba.

According to the commissioner, the inspection marks the beginning of a statewide assessment of public library facilities aimed at identifying operational challenges, improving infrastructure, and repositioning libraries to meet the demands of the digital age.

He explained that the modernisation programme will focus on upgrading library infrastructure, expanding access to digital learning resources, improving internet connectivity, replacing obsolete equipment, and enhancing the preservation of important government publications for research and archival purposes.

Tonukari noted that the initiative reflects the state government's commitment to strengthening the education sector by providing modern learning environments that support academic excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning.

The planned reforms are expected to improve access to information and equip public libraries to better serve students, researchers, and the wider public across Delta State.
