BREAKING: Gov Alia Says Benue Leading In Local Government Autonomy Implementation

Governor Hyacinth Alia has stated that Benue State is at the forefront of implementing local government autonomy in Nigeria, describing the policy as a major step toward strengthening governance and accelerating grassroots development.

The governor said the direct allocation of funds to local government councils has enhanced service delivery, accountability, and development at the grassroots, allowing councils to address the needs of their communities more effectively.

Alia also called on other state governors across the country to embrace and fully implement local government autonomy, stressing that the initiative is essential for deepening democracy and ensuring equitable development at the local level.

According to him, empowering local governments through direct funding will enable them to execute critical projects, improve public services, and respond more efficiently to the needs of residents.

The governor's remarks come amid ongoing national discussions on the implementation of local government autonomy following recent judicial and policy developments aimed at strengthening the financial and administrative independence of local councils.
