Bayelsa Govt Denies Plan To Relocate NDU College Of Health Sciences

The Bayelsa State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that it plans to relocate the College of Health Sciences of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The government, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Douye Diri, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, described the speculation as false and unfounded, attributing it to the imagination of those behind the rumour.

According to the statement, Governor Douye Diri has neither approved any recommendation from a committee report regarding the relocation of the college nor considered such a move.

The government further explained that the current admission quotas of the two colleges of health sciences owned by the state — the College of Health Sciences at NDU and the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) — remain inadequate to meet existing demands.

It noted that relocating the NDU College of Health Sciences would negatively affect the academic progress of both institutions and disrupt the training of medical students.

The state government urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and advised those promoting such claims to desist in the interest of peace and stability in Bayelsa State.

It also warned that it would take legal action against individuals responsible for spreading false information, particularly through social media platforms.
