Bayelsa Can Become “Dubai On Water” Through Vision, Strategic Investment — Stakeholders
Growing calls have emerged for the transformation of Bayelsa State into a world-class coastal economic hub, with advocates insisting that the state possesses the natural resources, geographical advantage, and human capital needed to become a major center for tourism, commerce, and industrial development in West Africa.
The campaign, championed by development advocates under the banner of Team GO and Verify, argues that Bayelsa should no longer be underestimated, especially considering the rapid transformation of places such as Lekki in Lagos State, which evolved from largely waterlogged terrain into one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for luxury living, business, and infrastructure development.
According to the group, Bayelsa’s vast waterways, rich oil and gas deposits, fertile land, and strategic coastal location position the state for massive economic expansion if stakeholders embrace unity, long-term planning, and purposeful investment.
The advocates stressed that the state’s greatest challenge has never been a lack of potential, but rather insufficient collaboration, visionary leadership, and sustained development policies aimed at future generations.
They called on successful Bayelsans both at home and in the diaspora to unite around a common vision of building a globally competitive coastal city capable of attracting international investors and development partners.
The group noted that with deliberate investment, foreign partnerships, improved infrastructure, and a secure business environment, Bayelsa could emerge as:
The marine economic capital of West Africa
A leading tourism destination
A world-class smart coastal city
A center for oil and gas industrialization
A major export and shipping hub
A preferred destination for global investment
They further observed that many people once doubted the developmental prospects of Lekki before its rapid transformation, adding that history has shown that any region with vision, security, infrastructure, and sustained investment can rise beyond expectations.
The statement concluded with a call for leaders, investors, and stakeholders to prioritize collective progress and legacy-driven development over personal interests, emphasizing that Bayelsa has all it takes to become a global reference point for aquatic urban development.
