Sun Newspaper’s Nomination Affirms Nwifuru’s People-Centred Leadership — Nwedu

A member of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS), Nwedu Abraham Nwedu, has congratulated Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on his nomination by The Sun Newspaper as Governor of the Year 2026, describing the recognition as a testament to his commitment to purposeful leadership, people-centred governance and the transformation of Ebonyi State.

Nwedu said the nomination was a moment of pride for Ebonyi people, noting that it offered an opportunity to celebrate a leadership philosophy that places the welfare, aspirations and development needs of citizens at the heart of government policies and programmes.

He described Governor Nwifuru as a visionary leader whose administration has continued to pursue development through the People’s Charter of Needs, a governance philosophy that emphasises the importance of responding to the needs of the people while building a stronger foundation for the state’s future.

According to Nwedu, the significance of the nomination extends beyond the honour itself, as it provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of leadership that prioritises practical development, social welfare, peace and the creation of opportunities for citizens.

He said Governor Nwifuru’s development agenda encompasses several critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, workers’ welfare, technology and human-capital development, all of which are essential to building a prosperous and sustainable society.

Nwedu particularly highlighted the administration’s investments in education, including support for educational institutions, improvements in school infrastructure, scholarship opportunities and the development of specialised universities designed to prepare young Ebonyians for emerging opportunities in technology, science and other professional fields.

He noted that investment in education was one of the most effective ways of securing the future of any society, adding that empowering young people with knowledge, skills and opportunities would have lasting benefits for families, communities and the state.

On healthcare, Nwedu commended efforts aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to medical services and strengthening the welfare of healthcare workers, stressing that a healthy population was indispensable to sustainable development.

He also pointed to road construction, urban renewal and other infrastructure projects as important components of the administration’s development agenda, noting that improved connectivity could stimulate economic activities, facilitate transportation and create better conditions for businesses and communities.

Nwedu further emphasised the importance of agriculture, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and youth empowerment in expanding economic opportunities and improving the livelihoods of residents.

According to him, government policies that combine infrastructure development with investment in human capacity can help create an environment in which citizens are better positioned to contribute to economic growth and community development.

“Your Excellency, your leadership continues to inspire hope, strengthen confidence in governance and demonstrate that the true value of leadership lies in its impact on the lives of the people. The People’s Charter of Needs represents a commitment to putting the people first and ensuring that governance responds to their aspirations,” Nwedu said.

He described Governor Nwifuru as a champion of the people’s welfare, a builder of modern Ebonyi, a man of peace and a leader whose vision is centred on creating a better future for present and succeeding generations.

Nwedu added that effective leadership requires not only the initiation of development projects but also a sustained commitment to ensuring that government programmes translate into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

He said the nomination by The Sun Newspaper was an encouraging development for Ebonyi State, adding that recognition of public leadership should also inspire greater commitment to service, accountability and the continuous improvement of citizens’ welfare.

“When performance speaks, recognition follows. This nomination is a moment of pride for Ebonyi State and a source of encouragement to everyone who believes in the promise of a brighter future for our people,” he stated.

Nwedu expressed optimism that the recognition would further encourage the Governor to sustain his administration’s development agenda and intensify efforts to address the needs of Ebonyians across the state’s 13 local government areas.

He congratulated Governor Nwifuru on the nomination, describing it as an honour for the Governor and an occasion for the people of Ebonyi to reflect on their collective aspirations for peace, prosperity and sustainable development.

He also urged residents to continue contributing to the progress of the state by supporting peace, unity and initiatives that promote development and improve the quality of life of citizens.
