NDC Senatorial Candidate BIBI, Highlights Humanitarian Service, Cultural Heritage Development Priorities
Hon. Sunny Aguebor, popularly known as BIBI, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, has called for unity among the people of the district, saying shared cultural heritage and a common desire for development should inspire collective action towards a better future.
In a statement titled “Edo South’s Unity of Purpose: Why Hon. Sunny Aguebor (BIBI) Should Be Senator,” Aguebor said the district needed a senator who understands the people’s culture, appreciates their challenges and remains committed to advancing their interests at the national level.
Edo South comprises seven local government areas: Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo, Orhionmwon, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West and Uhunmwonde. The district shares strong historical and cultural ties with the ancient Benin Kingdom, with the Bini language and traditional institutions serving as important elements of its identity.
Aguebor described these shared bonds as a source of strength that could help the district pursue common developmental goals and secure more effective representation in the National Assembly.
He, however, stressed that cultural affinity must be matched by commitment to public service, accessibility, accountability and practical efforts to improve the lives of constituents.
The NDC candidate said his involvement in humanitarian activities and community support initiatives had strengthened his connection with people across Edo South, adding that leadership should be measured by its impact on people's lives rather than the title attached to an office.
According to him, his humanitarian efforts have focused on supporting vulnerable residents, young people, students, traders, farmers and families in need, particularly through interventions relating to education, healthcare, empowerment and community development.
Aguebor maintained that his aspiration to represent Edo South in the Senate was an opportunity to extend his commitment to public service through legislative representation and sustained advocacy for the district.
He said effective representation should involve regular engagement with constituents, listening to community concerns and pursuing solutions to challenges affecting different parts of the senatorial district.
On development priorities, Aguebor emphasised the need for a stronger voice for Edo South in federal decision-making, particularly in the pursuit of infrastructure projects, employment opportunities, youth empowerment and improved access to essential services.
He noted that the responsibilities of a senator extend beyond lawmaking to include legislative oversight, constituency engagement and collaboration with relevant institutions to advance the interests of the people.
The candidate also highlighted the importance of supporting education, strengthening healthcare delivery and creating opportunities for small businesses and young entrepreneurs, arguing that sustainable development requires deliberate policies and consistent attention to the needs of ordinary citizens.
Aguebor called on residents of the seven local government areas to embrace unity and focus on shared aspirations, noting that collective participation and cooperation could strengthen the district's voice in national affairs.
He urged voters to assess political candidates based on their records, commitment to service, accessibility and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Edo South.
Reaffirming his ambition to represent the district under the NDC, Aguebor called on the electorate to support his candidacy, describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to advance a development-focused agenda for the people.
The Edo South senatorial contest is expected to feature competing political interests ahead of the 2027 general elections. Aguebor's NDC nomination has also been the subject of an ongoing legal dispute over the party's primary and candidate selection process, with the final resolution dependent on the relevant judicial and electoral processes.
