Oyarekwa Felix Unveils Five-Point Development Agenda, Promises People-Centred Representation In Akoko-Edo II
Ambassador (Dr.) Austine Oyarekwa Felix-Aderi, the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for Edo State House of Assembly in Akoko-Edo Constituency II, has unveiled a five-point development agenda focused on employment generation, education, healthcare, infrastructure and the responsible management of mining activities.
Oyarekwa, a global human capital strategist and human resources expert with more than two decades of professional experience across Africa, North America, Asia and Europe, said his ambition was to provide effective representation capable of unlocking the economic and social potential of the constituency.
In his campaign message titled “The People's Manifesto: A Call to Action for a Better Future,” the candidate stressed the need for accessible leadership, transparent governance and practical development initiatives that would improve the lives of residents.
He maintained that Akoko-Edo Constituency II had considerable economic potential but required purposeful representation to translate its resources and opportunities into tangible benefits for the people.
Under his proposed agenda, Oyarekwa identified effective constituency engagement as a major priority, promising regular town hall meetings across the five wards and the establishment of constituency offices within his first year in office.
According to the manifesto, the proposed offices would help address the concerns of residents in the respective wards, while public reporting on projects and funding would promote transparency and accountability.
On employment and economic empowerment, the NDP candidate proposed local employment opportunities in industries operating within the constituency, skills acquisition programmes and start-up funding initiatives for businesses owned by young people and women.
He also outlined plans to initiate a talent pipeline that would connect jobseekers in the constituency with employment opportunities, drawing on his professional background in human capital development and talent acquisition.
Oyarekwa further identified education and primary healthcare as critical areas requiring attention. His proposals include improved school infrastructure, laboratory equipment, teacher-support and training programmes, scholarships, and school feeding initiatives in selected schools.
He also pledged to prioritise functional primary healthcare centres, stressing the importance of accessible health services to community development and the wellbeing of residents.
On infrastructure, the candidate said his agenda would focus on advocating for the rehabilitation of rural roads, access to clean water, improved electricity supply and the development of rural markets across the constituency's five wards.
He equally placed emphasis on the mining sector, proposing stronger enforcement of Community Development Agreements, compliance with environmental standards and greater transparency in mining-related revenue.
The proposals seek to address concerns surrounding the relationship between natural resource extraction and community development, particularly the need for host communities to benefit meaningfully from economic activities taking place within their environment.
Oyarekwa said he intended to build his representation around accessibility, transparency and accountability, assuring constituents of his commitment to working towards a better future for the constituency.
His campaign message presents the forthcoming election as an opportunity for voters to consider a development-oriented approach to representation, with emphasis on employment, public services, infrastructure and the responsible utilisation of local resources.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the candidate's ability to translate the proposed agenda into clear legislative priorities, sustained advocacy and measurable development outcomes will be an important consideration for voters.
Oyarekwa is seeking the mandate of the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency II on the platform of the NDP, under the campaign message: “A Voice for the People. The Light of Hope for Akoko-Edo Constituency II.”
