The voice of Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency is being represented on the international parliamentary stage as Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, member of the House of Representatives, joins Nigeria’s delegation to the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania.
The Assembly, which is taking place from October 5 to 9, 2026, brings together parliamentarians from national parliaments across the world to deliberate on issues affecting governance, development, peace, inclusion and international cooperation.
The 153rd IPU Assembly is being held under the theme, “Enhancing Good Governance and Empowering Communities Through Inclusivity, Trust and Opportunities for All.” The gathering provides a platform for lawmakers to exchange experiences, strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and explore practical approaches to challenges confronting communities and nations.
For Hon. Osawaru, the engagement is particularly significant in view of his role as Chairman of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa. His participation provides an opportunity to engage with legislators from across Africa and other parts of the world on matters relating to parliamentary cooperation, democratic governance, sustainable development, peace, inclusion and institutional strengthening.
Discussions at the Assembly are also focused on critical global issues, including democracy and human rights, sustainable development, peace and international security, disability inclusion, terrorism, emerging technologies and the role of parliaments in promoting international cooperation.
The Assembly is expected to conclude with an outcome document reflecting the collective commitments and resolutions of participating parliaments.
As a representative of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Hon. Osawaru’s participation in the international parliamentary gathering places the constituency within broader conversations taking place among lawmakers on global governance and development.
From Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode to the international parliamentary community in Arusha, Tanzania, the focus remains on representation, engagement, knowledge-sharing and building partnerships that can contribute to development at home.
