Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assented to five bills passed by the Delta State House of Assembly, including the Payment of Thirteenth Month Salary Bill, 2026, which provides the legal backing for the payment of 13th-month salaries to state workers.

The bills were presented to the governor by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, during a ceremony at Government House, Asaba.

The other bills assented to are the Delta State Revenue Service (Consolidated) Bill, 2026; Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2026; Delta State High Court (Amendment) Bill, 2026; and Delta State Customary Court of Appeal (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

The development marks a significant step towards strengthening public institutions, improving the state's revenue administration, protecting property rights and enhancing the administration of justice in Delta State.

Of particular significance is the Payment of Thirteenth Month Salary Bill, 2026, which establishes the necessary legal framework for the payment of an additional month's salary to Delta State workers, reinforcing the state government's commitment to workers' welfare under the MORE Agenda.

The passage and subsequent assent to the bills also underscore the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government in advancing policies and laws that respond to the needs of the people.

Speaking on the development, Guwor reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State House of Assembly to enacting laws that promote sustainable development, strengthen governance structures and improve the living conditions of residents.

He also commended Governor Oborevwori for his continued cooperation with the legislature and dedication to the progress and development of the state.

The Speaker expressed optimism that sustained collaboration between both arms of government would further advance the aspirations of Deltans and deliver meaningful benefits to the people.

The assent to the five bills represents another milestone in the state's legislative and governance process, particularly in strengthening institutional frameworks and providing legal support for policies aimed at improving workers' welfare.
