MOSOGP Demands Political Inclusion, Backs Ogoni Aspiration For Rivers Governorship

The Movement for the Survival of the Gokana People (MOSOGP) has called for greater political inclusion and recognition of the contributions of the Ogoni people to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria.

The group said Ogoni had, over the decades, made significant sacrifices and contributions to the peace, unity and progress of Rivers State and the country, stressing that the time had come for the people to have a meaningful opportunity to participate in the leadership of the state.

In a statement signed by its President, Deenor Lucky, MOSOGP said the aspiration of the Ogoni people was rooted in fairness, equality, inclusion and equal opportunity, rather than opposition to any ethnic group or community.

The group noted that, ahead of the 2027 general elections, there was a growing aspiration among Ogoni people for an Ogoni son or daughter to have the opportunity to govern Rivers State.

MOSOGP specifically mentioned Sir Gabriel Pidomson, one of those who have expressed interest in the governorship, saying his stated vision included a Rivers State where every child has hope, young people have access to meaningful opportunities, communities experience purposeful development, and citizens’ voices are heard and respected.

The organisation, however, emphasised that political participation must remain peaceful, democratic and guided by the collective interest of the people.

It consequently urged eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), participate actively in the electoral process, scrutinise the programmes and records of all candidates and make informed choices at the polls.

According to MOSOGP, the call for an Ogoni governor should not be interpreted as an aspiration against any other ethnic nationality in Rivers State, but as a demand for equity, inclusion and equal opportunity within a united state.

“Ogoni has sacrificed. Ogoni has contributed. Ogoni deserves to be heard,” the group stated.

MOSOGP urged the people to remain united, peaceful and committed to the democratic process as the 2027 elections approach, expressing its determination to promote the unity, equity, justice, inclusion and continued advancement of the Ogoni people.
