Human Rights Groups Unite Against Extortion, Reaffirm Commitment To Justice, Rule of Law
Several human rights organisations have reaffirmed their commitment to the fight against extortion and other unlawful practices, calling for stronger collaboration among rights advocates to promote justice, accountability and the protection of fundamental human rights in society.
The representatives of the organisations demonstrated their collective resolve during a court appearance on Monday, October 26, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to address the menace of extortion and strengthen the enforcement of citizens’ rights.
The organisations were represented by Barr. Collins Edu Abiodun, President/Director General of EduBrain International Human Rights Organization (EIHRO); Barr. Omonbude Solomon, Counsel to Bail Is Free Organization; Comrade Oni Justice Edigin, Director General of Bail Is Free Campaign Organization; Comrade Queen Osagioduwa; Leftist Dickson John, Esq.; and Comrade Chukwuemeka.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of EduBrain International Human Rights Organization, Comrade Dennisdion Allen, the gathering underscored the importance of collective action in confronting extortion and other practices that undermine the rights, dignity and welfare of citizens.
The statement emphasised that the fight against extortion requires sustained commitment, strategic partnerships and effective coordination among human rights organisations, noting that no single organisation can successfully address the challenge in isolation.
It further stressed the need for relevant stakeholders to work together to strengthen accountability, promote respect for the rule of law and ensure that individuals whose rights have been violated have access to appropriate legal remedies.
The organisations maintained that the protection of fundamental human rights must remain a shared responsibility, urging rights advocates to remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice and to support efforts aimed at discouraging unlawful practices in public and private institutions.
They also reiterated their commitment to building a society where justice, fairness and equality are upheld, and where the principles of human dignity and the rule of law are reflected in everyday practice.
The statement called for greater synergy among human rights groups, legal practitioners and other stakeholders, stressing that collaboration remains essential to achieving meaningful progress in the protection of citizens against abuse and exploitation.
It added that the organisations would continue to support initiatives that advance justice, promote accountability and encourage respect for the fundamental rights of every citizen.
The statement concluded with a renewed call for unity among human rights advocates in the collective struggle against extortion and the promotion of a free, fair and egalitarian society.
“Together, we stand for justice. Together, we fight extortion. Together, we can build a free, fair and egalitarian society,” the statement declared.
