Founding Fathers Commend Nwifuru’s Infrastructure Drive, Urge Focus On Sustainable Development
Founding Fathers, members of the Elders Council and other critical stakeholders in Ebonyi State have commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for the scale and spread of ongoing and completed infrastructural projects across the state.
The commendation came during an inspection tour of selected projects across the state, led by Governor Nwifuru on September 26, 2026, as part of activities ahead of the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of Ebonyi State.
The tour provided the Founding Fathers and other stakeholders with an opportunity to physically assess the quality, scale and progress of projects being executed by the present administration, while also reflecting on the state’s development trajectory three decades after its creation.
One of the major points of call was the Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, Ezza, where the delegation inspected 17 major structures at various stages of completion.
Most of the structures are two-storey buildings and above, comprising staff and students’ quarters, faculty buildings and other facilities designed to support academic activities at the institution, which is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2027.
The delegation also inspected the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology, Opherekpe, Agbaja, where 25 major structures have been erected, none of them a bungalow.
Among the facilities is the Professor Fidelis Ogah Senior Staff Quarters, which has been completed, furnished and recently commissioned by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Yilwatda Nentawe.
The university’s Senate Building also attracted attention, having emerged as a major architectural landmark within the institution. Other facilities, including accommodation for principal officers, staff and students, faculty buildings and associated infrastructure, are at various stages of completion as the university prepares to admit its second cohort of students.
At the 140-unit Senator Chris Nwankwo Reward Estate, the inspection team observed that finishing works were nearing completion. The estate is designed for allocation to deserving Ebonyians who have distinguished themselves in their respective professions, trades and fields of endeavour.
The team subsequently visited the emerging architectural landmark at VANCO Junction, where Governor Nwifuru explained the design features, dimensions and strategic importance of the flyover to the Founding Fathers and other stakeholders.
The Governor said the project was targeted for completion and commissioning by the end of the first quarter of 2027.
The inspection also covered the emerging Ebonyi Hotel and the 10-storey Trade Centre complex along the Offia-Nwali Flyover corridor, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on large-scale infrastructure capable of transforming the state’s urban landscape and strengthening its economic potential.
Other projects inspected included the Odomoke–Ekebeligwe–Isophumini–Nwori Road, the three-span Ekebeligwe Bridge, the Izhiogo Tunnel with Overpass and the Izhiogo–Opherekpe Road, among others.
At the various project sites, the Founding Fathers, elders and stakeholders commended Governor Nwifuru for the breadth of infrastructural interventions across the state.
However, they urged the Governor to remain focused on sustainable development rather than being driven by the conventional race for frequent commissioning ceremonies.
They stressed that the ultimate measure of governance should not be the number of projects commissioned, but the enduring value such projects create for present and future generations of Ebonyians.
The stakeholders consequently encouraged the Governor to consolidate the gains already recorded and continue laying sustainable foundations that would place Ebonyi on an irreversible path of development.
Responding, Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of the people in line with its governing philosophy, the People’s Charter of Needs.
The inspection tour therefore served not only as an assessment of physical infrastructure but also as a moment of intergenerational dialogue, institutional reflection and renewed commitment to the aspirations that informed the creation of Ebonyi State 30 years ago.
For the Founding Fathers who witnessed the birth of the state, the sight of major educational, residential, transportation, commercial and urban infrastructure taking shape across Ebonyi offered tangible evidence of how the dreams of the past could be translated into concrete realities.
For Governor Nwifuru, the exercise further demonstrated that the responsibility of his administration extends beyond the construction of physical structures to building institutions, expanding opportunities and laying enduring foundations for the future of Ebonyi State.
