2027: Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 Needs Competence, Vision, Capacity — Supporters
As preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 Edo State House of Assembly election, supporters of Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix have called on the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 to make competence, capacity, experience and vision the major considerations in choosing their next representative.
The supporters said the 2027 election presents an opportunity for the constituency to demand a new standard of representation—one that goes beyond political slogans and promises to focus on practical solutions, effective engagement and measurable development.
They described Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix as a professional with extensive experience in human capital development, organisational effectiveness, leadership transformation and economic inclusion, arguing that his professional background gives him a broader understanding of how institutions, people and opportunities can be connected to produce sustainable development.
Dr. Felix, according to his professional profile, has more than two decades of experience in human resources and development-related work and has supported programmes across more than 25 countries. He has also worked with international organisations including Mercy Corps International, the International Rescue Committee, Management Sciences for Health, Palladium and Save the Children UK.
His supporters believe that such exposure can bring a different perspective to legislative representation, particularly in areas such as youth empowerment, skills development, employment opportunities, education, entrepreneurship, community development and institutional engagement.
They argued that the responsibility of a House of Assembly member should not end with attending plenary sessions, but should include understanding the needs of constituents, asking the right questions, contributing meaningfully to legislation, advocating for development and maintaining a strong connection with the people.
According to them, Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 needs a representative who can effectively articulate the concerns of the people, engage government agencies and other relevant institutions, attract opportunities and pursue initiatives capable of improving the social and economic wellbeing of constituents.
“Leadership is not merely about occupying a political office. It is about having the competence, courage and capacity to use that office to create opportunities and solve problems,” the supporters said.
They further pointed to Dr. Felix's work in human capital development and economic inclusion, noting that his professional philosophy places emphasis on identifying talent, developing people and creating pathways to opportunity. His profile also identifies youth empowerment and economic inclusion among the areas he seeks to advance.
The supporters said this approach is particularly relevant to a constituency where young people need greater access to skills, entrepreneurship, employment and other opportunities that can enable them to become economically productive.
They also stressed the importance of representation that is accessible, accountable and responsive to the needs of every community within the constituency.
“Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 deserves a representative who will not only speak for the people but will understand the issues, engage the right institutions and pursue opportunities that can translate into tangible benefits for our communities,” they said.
The supporters therefore urged voters to look beyond political calculations and consider the competence, experience, character and capacity of candidates before making their choice in 2027.
They expressed confidence that Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix can provide a new dimension of legislative representation anchored on competence, vision, accountability, human capital development and service to the people.
They called on the people of Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 to make the 2027 election a deliberate decision about the future of their constituency.
“Choose competence. Choose vision. Choose courage. Choose accountable representation. Choose leadership with capacity.”
For his supporters, the message is clear: 2027 should be about choosing leadership that can turn experience into opportunity, vision into action and representation into meaningful development.
