Bibi Commends Dickson For Promoting National Unity, Condemning Political Violence
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District, Sunny Aguebor, popularly known as Bibi, has commended the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, for his recent call for a national, inclusive approach to politics and his condemnation of violence against opposition members.
Bibi described Dickson’s message as timely and important to the growth of democracy in Nigeria, particularly his emphasis that the NDC should remain a national platform open to Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or regional background.
Dickson, a former Governor of Bayelsa State and National Leader of the NDC, made the remarks while receiving members of the party’s United Kingdom chapter during a courtesy visit in commemoration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. Reports of the engagement said the meeting focused on strengthening the party’s diaspora structure and its preparations for the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to the message, Bibi said he particularly appreciated Dickson’s insistence that the party’s activities and campaigns should promote national unity rather than ethnic or religious identity.
According to Bibi, political parties have a responsibility to demonstrate the kind of inclusive Nigeria they seek to build, adding that the NDC’s message should resonate with citizens across all wards, local government areas and states.
He also commended Dickson for speaking firmly against attacks on NDC members and political activities across the country.
Bibi said violence must not be allowed to become part of Nigeria’s political culture, stressing that political disagreements should be resolved through dialogue, ideas and the ballot box.
He said Dickson’s position that political competition should be based on programmes, records and ideas rather than violence or identity was consistent with the principles of democratic participation.
Bibi further praised the NDC National Leader for engaging members of the party in the diaspora and recognising their potential contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development.
He urged NDC members at home and abroad to uphold peace, inclusiveness and respect for the rule of law while participating actively in the democratic process.
Bibi said the party must continue to provide a platform where Nigerians from different backgrounds can participate freely and contribute to the task of strengthening the country’s democracy.
He expressed his appreciation to Dickson for what he described as his continued efforts to strengthen the NDC’s national outlook and protect the democratic space.
“Senator Seriake Dickson has once again demonstrated the importance of building a political platform that belongs to all Nigerians. His position against ethnic and religious profiling, hate speech and political violence deserves commendation,” Bibi said.
