Aiguobarueghian Condemns Attack On Porkupyne, Calls For Justice And Warns Against Political Violence

The Member representing Ovia North East Constituency I in the Edo State House of Assembly and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency, Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian, has condemned the reported brutal attack on popular entertainer and comedian, Osagie Idedia, popularly known as Porkupyne, in Benin City.

Porkupyne was reportedly attacked and beaten by unidentified individuals on Friday, October 23, 2026, and is currently receiving hospital treatment, with reports indicating that he is battling for his life.

In a statement condemning the incident, Hon. Aiguobarueghian expressed deep concern over the attack and denounced all forms of violence, particularly acts allegedly motivated by political differences.

The lawmaker stressed that political disagreements should never justify physical assaults, intimidation, threats or any action that endangers human life. He maintained that democracy thrives on the exchange of ideas, peaceful engagement and respect for differing opinions, rather than violence.

He called on the relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Hon. Aiguobarueghian also expressed solidarity with Porkupyne, his family, friends and fans, while praying for his speedy recovery.

“Politics should be about ideas, service and peaceful engagement—not violence, intimidation or the shedding of blood. No political interest is worth a human life,” he stated.

The lawmaker further urged politicians, political supporters and members of the public to reject violence in all its forms and embrace peace, tolerance and respect for human dignity, regardless of political affiliation.

He emphasised that political differences must not degenerate into hostility or physical attacks, noting that the safety and well-being of citizens must remain paramount.

Hon. Aiguobarueghian called on all stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and responsible political participation, stressing that Edo State needs unity, stability and development rather than violence and intimidation.

He maintained that those responsible for the attack, if identified and found guilty, must face the full consequences of the law to ensure justice for the victim and deter similar incidents in the future.

Edo State deserves peace, justice and responsible political engagement—not violence.
