Aiguobarueghian Celebrates Teachers, Pledges Stronger Legislative Support For Education
Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian, member representing Ovia North East 1 Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency, has felicitated teachers across Ovia North East, Ovia Federal Constituency, Edo State and Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
Aiguobarueghian, in a goodwill message marking the annual celebration on October 5, described teachers as nation builders whose contributions remain fundamental to the development of children, communities and society.
He said the occasion was particularly significant to him because of his family's longstanding connection with the teaching profession.
According to him, his late father retired as a school headmaster, while his wife and brother currently work as teachers in higher institutions, giving him a personal understanding of the discipline, sacrifice and dedication required in the profession.
“Teachers are nation builders. Every professional, every leader, every entrepreneur and every responsible citizen passed through the hands of a teacher,” he said.
Aiguobarueghian noted that despite the enormous responsibility placed on teachers, many continue to face challenges that require greater attention from government and policymakers.
He stressed the need to prioritise the welfare, dignity and working conditions of teachers, including adequate support, opportunities for professional development and timely attention to their legitimate concerns.
The lawmaker said that, as a legislator, he would continue to use every available platform to advocate for teachers, amplify their voices and promote policies and interventions capable of improving their welfare and strengthening the education sector.
He further pledged that, if elected to represent the people of Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, he would make teachers’ welfare and the advancement of education important components of his legislative agenda.
“I will advocate for measures that will improve the conditions under which our teachers work, promote their professional growth and ensure that their contributions to our communities are properly recognised,” he stated.
Aiguobarueghian, who spoke from his hometown of Ekiadolor, said the quality of the future depends largely on how society treats those entrusted with educating the next generation.
“My belief is simple: if we want a better future for our children, we must take better care of those who teach them,” he said.
He commended teachers for their patience, sacrifice, resilience and commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation, assuring them of his continued support and advocacy.
He concluded by thanking teachers for “teaching, inspiring, shaping lives and building our future,” while wishing them a happy World Teachers’ Day 2026.
