2027: NDC’s Merogun Unveils Five-Point Agenda To Light Up Warri South Constituency 1

Dr. Michael Eyituoyo Merogun, a candidate hopeful of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Warri South Constituency 1 in the Delta State House of Assembly, has unveiled an ambitious development agenda centred on unity, security, education, economic empowerment and community development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Popularly known as Miky, Merogun said his aspiration was driven by a desire to provide effective representation, address the needs of ordinary residents and promote inclusive development across the constituency.

Under the campaign theme, “Let’s Light Up Warri Again — 2027,” the prospective lawmaker outlined a vision of a more united, secure and economically vibrant Warri South Constituency 1, where residents can enjoy improved access to basic amenities, educational opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.

A major component of his proposed agenda is the promotion of peaceful coexistence among the Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw ethnic groups, which constitute important parts of the constituency’s social and cultural landscape.

Merogun pledged to promote unity across Wards 1 to 12, stressing that ethnic differences should not become obstacles to collective progress. He maintained that every community deserves a sense of belonging and equal consideration in the distribution of development opportunities.

On security, the NDC aspirant said he would work with relevant security agencies, community leaders, vigilante groups and young people to strengthen grassroots security initiatives.

He also proposed advocating for streetlights in poorly illuminated areas and establishing a constituency security forum to facilitate communication between residents and relevant authorities.

According to him, creating a safer environment is essential to attracting investors, protecting businesses and encouraging economic activities across Warri South.

Education also features prominently in his proposed legislative agenda. Merogun pledged to advocate for the renovation of primary and secondary schools, scholarship assistance and free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration forms for eligible students.

He further proposed holiday coaching programmes, the provision of educational materials for children and legislative efforts to improve teachers’ welfare across Delta State.

The aspirant said investments in education would help equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to compete favourably in an increasingly demanding economy.

On economic empowerment, Merogun proposed annual skills acquisition programmes targeting 500 youths and women, with training opportunities in fashion design, welding, fishing, catering, information and communications technology, and other income-generating ventures.

He also pledged to pursue access to soft loans and grants for market women, improved tools and support for fishermen and artisans, as well as dedicated empowerment initiatives for widows and persons with disabilities.

Merogun said his proposed empowerment programmes would prioritise practical opportunities that enable beneficiaries to establish businesses, generate income and become more economically independent.

On infrastructure and community development, he promised to lobby the Delta State Government and other relevant institutions to attract projects capable of improving living conditions in the constituency.

His priorities include road construction and rehabilitation, improved drainage systems, jetties for riverine communities, access to potable water and better electricity supply.

He also identified employment creation as a key concern, pledging to advocate for opportunities for qualified residents in government institutions and companies operating within and around Warri.

To promote accountability and regular engagement with constituents, Merogun proposed quarterly town hall meetings and periodic reports on his stewardship, should he secure election into the state legislature.

He said his approach to representation would be anchored on accessibility, consultation and sustained engagement with the people rather than contact limited to election periods.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Merogun holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Studies from the University of East London, a Master of Business Administration from Anglia Ruskin University and a PhD in Business Administration from Twintech International University College of Technology, Malaysia.

He was Secretary-General of the Students’ Union Government during his student days and also served in a role involving the recruitment of international students.

Beyond his academic background, he is a writer, speaker and entrepreneur with business interests in Nigeria and internationally.

He is the Chief Executive Officer of Mero-Nique Multifunction Nigeria Limited, located on Airport Road, Warri, and a co-director of Omo-Bless and Sons Nigeria Limited, with business interests in Warri, Delta State.

Drawing on his background in business administration and entrepreneurship, Merogun said he believes Warri South can unlock greater economic opportunities by creating an environment in which local businesses, private investors and residents can thrive.

He argued that improved infrastructure, access to essential services, security and stronger community relations would be important in attracting investment and stimulating economic growth.

Describing himself as a Warri indigene who understands the challenges confronting the people, Merogun expressed confidence that cooperation among communities, effective representation and responsible engagement with government could help reposition the constituency for greater development.

He said his vision of lighting up Warri again goes beyond physical infrastructure to include economic opportunities, social inclusion, improved living standards and a renewed sense of collective responsibility.

The NDC candidate hopeful urged residents to embrace unity and support a development-oriented approach to politics, insisting that the constituency's natural and human resources should translate into tangible benefits for its people.

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Merogun's proposed agenda places emphasis on grassroots engagement and the need for elected representatives to remain accountable to the communities they serve.

His central message is that Warri South Constituency 1 can achieve meaningful progress through inclusive leadership, strategic advocacy and sustained collaboration between government, the private sector and local communities.

Under the banner of “Let’s Light Up Warri Again — 2027,” Merogun says he is seeking an opportunity to turn that vision into a practical programme of representation and development.

His ultimate pledge is to make Warri South Constituency 1 better, brighter and more prosperous for all.
