Security Is Already Being Addressed Under Nwifuru — Nwedu
A member of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS), Hon. Nwedu Abraham Nwedu, has described security as a major priority of the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, saying anyone presenting security as a new campaign topic in the state should first consider the record of the present administration.
Nwedu stated this while reacting to emerging campaign issues ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ebonyi State.
According to him, Governor Nwifuru came into office with peace and security as central priorities and has, through dialogue, stakeholder engagement, security interventions and deliberate peace-building efforts, continued to address longstanding communal conflicts across the state.
He specifically cited the administration's interventions in conflict-affected areas, including Effium/Ezza-Effium and Abaomege/Ishinkwo, noting that the government has continued to pursue greater stability and normalcy in affected communities.
Nwifuru's administration has also continued to engage security agencies and respond to security incidents across the state. In February 2026, Vice President Kashim Shettima publicly commended the governor's efforts in restoring peace following the Oso-Edda/Amasiri crisis, describing his approach as mature and unbiased.
More recently, following the killing of the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo Community in April 2026, Governor Nwifuru directed the state's joint security architecture to investigate the incident and mobilised security agencies to apprehend those responsible.
Nwedu said the developments demonstrate that peace and security are not issues that the Nwifuru administration is only discussing as campaign promises, but areas in which the government has already taken concrete actions and continues to face ongoing responsibilities.
“FON came with a message of peace, and his administration continues to work toward a peaceful, secure and united Ebonyi State,” Nwedu said.
He stressed that peace remains fundamental to development, arguing that meaningful economic, social and infrastructural progress cannot be sustained without security and stability.
“Peace is the foundation for development. Without peace, there can be no meaningful progress,” he said.
Nwedu therefore urged Ebonyians to assess campaign promises against the record of what has already been done, the challenges that have been addressed and the work that remains ongoing.
He said security should be discussed within the context of the state's existing experience and the interventions already undertaken by the present administration.
“Anyone using security as part of his campaign topic in Ebonyi State is a pure political novice,” Nwedu declared.
The EBSIRS board member further reaffirmed his support for continuity in the Nwifuru administration, saying: “FON till 2031. He is an unstoppable, unbeatable and unshakable mission.”
