Oyarekwa Felix Pledges Industrial Development Bill For Akoko-Edo Constituency II

Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix, candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) for Akoko-Edo Constituency II, has proposed an Akoko-Edo Industrial Development Bill aimed at creating a legislative framework for industrialisation, investment and job creation in the constituency.

According to a development agenda released by his campaign, the proposed bill would focus on transforming the area’s agricultural and mineral resources through processing and value addition rather than continued reliance on the production and export of raw materials.

The proposed legislation would provide a framework for the establishment of industrial and agro-processing clusters designed to support local production and create employment opportunities.

The agenda also places emphasis on youth employment and technical skills development, including industrial training, apprenticeships and access to decent employment opportunities.

Other areas outlined include support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) through improved access to finance, markets, technology and business-development services.

Felix also proposes the use of investment incentives and public-private partnerships to attract responsible private-sector investment, while advocating improvements in infrastructure, particularly electricity, roads, water supply and digital connectivity.

The proposed bill would further seek to strengthen local value chains by ensuring that farmers, artisans and small businesses participate in the economic opportunities generated through industrial development.

Environmental protection and community safeguards are also listed among the proposed priorities, with emphasis on ensuring that industrial activities promote sustainable development while protecting communities and natural resources.

The candidate's campaign said the broader objective is to move Akoko-Edo Constituency II towards increased production, processing, enterprise development and employment.

It added that the proposed initiative is intended to provide a policy foundation for expanding businesses, developing skills, attracting investment and improving livelihoods across the constituency.
