Ogbomo Ernest Reaffirms Commitment To Education As Students Resume

Michael Ogbomo Ernest, popularly known as “German Man” and NDC candidate for the House of Representatives, Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, has reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for quality and free education for Nigerian students if elected.

Ogbomo Ernest stated this in a press statement welcoming students back to school for the 2026/2027 academic session, describing education as the foundation of development and a fundamental right of every citizen.

He pledged to make a strong case for students on the floor of the National Assembly, stressing that every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education regardless of family background.

According to him, admission into public schools should be free, while basic learning materials, including school uniforms and textbooks, should also be provided at no cost to pupils and students in public schools.

He further emphasised the responsibility of elected representatives to provide effective oversight of the executive arm of government and ensure that government policies and obligations to citizens are properly implemented.

Speaking on the state of education in Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode, Ogbomo Ernest expressed concern over what he described as the prolonged deterioration of the public education system in the federal constituency.

He said students across the two local government areas had, for decades, faced challenges including dilapidated classrooms, inadequate learning facilities and shortages of qualified teachers.

The NDC candidate also criticised the implementation of existing free education policies, arguing that the cost of gaining admission into public schools and purchasing learning materials continues to place financial pressure on parents and guardians.

He further expressed concern over what he described as the decline in opportunities for exceptional students, including access to foreign scholarship programmes.

Ogbomo Ernest attributed many of the challenges facing education in Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode to what he described as years of ineffective representation, alleging that political interests have often been prioritised over the educational needs and welfare of constituents.

He, however, assured constituents that his commitment to effective representation would go beyond promises, saying he would pursue practical interventions if elected.

Among the areas he identified are facilitating the construction and rehabilitation of public schools, advocating genuine free basic education, pursuing foreign scholarship opportunities for exceptional students, improving security in schools and supporting efforts to recruit qualified teachers.

He reiterated that education remains central to his legislative agenda and called for renewed attention to the welfare and future of students across Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode.

“Better Life Don Land O!” he declared.
