Nwifuru’s Performance Will Earn Him Second Term -- Udu

A political analyst and supporter of the Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru administration, Comrade Sunday Nkama Udu, has expressed confidence that the performance of the Ebonyi State Governor will earn him the support of the people of the state for a second term in the 2027 governorship election.

Udu, who described Governor Nwifuru’s administration as focused on delivering the promises contained in its People’s Charter of Needs, said the governor had recorded notable achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture and workers’ welfare since assuming office in 2023.

According to him, the administration’s investment in infrastructure has significantly changed the landscape of the state, with major projects in Abakaliki and road interventions across the 13 local government areas.

He specifically cited the VANCO Flyover and associated road infrastructure in Abakaliki, as well as rural and community road projects, saying such investments were improving connectivity and creating better conditions for economic activities.

Udu also highlighted the administration’s focus on education, pointing to the establishment of new universities, the development of model secondary schools, interventions at Ebonyi State University, teacher recruitment and scholarship programmes.

He said the administration’s reported overseas scholarship programme, which has benefited more than 1,000 Ebonyians according to recent government-related claims, demonstrated its emphasis on human capital development. Vanguard recently reported that the state government cited overseas scholarships for more than 1,000 Ebonyians pursuing postgraduate programmes among its achievements.

The political analyst further commended the government’s interventions in the health sector, including the rehabilitation and equipping of health facilities, recruitment of health personnel and expansion of health insurance coverage.

Recent reports have also documented support for Nwifuru’s second-term bid from beneficiaries of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme, who cited improvements in healthcare coverage and service delivery as reasons for their position.

On employment and empowerment, Udu said the lifting of the employment embargo, recruitment of workers, youth and women empowerment initiatives and agricultural interventions had provided opportunities for residents across the state.

He also pointed to efforts in pension and gratuity payments, peace-building and the completion of projects inherited from previous administrations as evidence of what he described as a continuity-driven approach to governance.

“Ebonyians have seen roads, schools, healthcare interventions and empowerment programmes under the present administration. These are the issues the people will consider as they assess the governor’s performance,” Udu said.

He argued that the People’s Charter of Needs had provided a framework for the administration to focus on issues directly affecting residents, adding that continuity would enable ongoing projects and programmes to be completed and consolidated.

His position comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Several Ebonyi stakeholders and groups have publicly expressed support for Nwifuru’s second-term bid, citing his administration’s reported achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare and human capital development.

However, opposition voices and civil society groups have also criticised aspects of the administration’s performance, particularly in infrastructure and other sectors, underscoring the differing assessments of the governor’s record as the 2027 election approaches.

Udu maintained that the ultimate assessment of the administration would be made by Ebonyians through the ballot, expressing confidence that the projects and programmes implemented under Governor Nwifuru would remain central to that assessment.

He therefore called on residents to examine the administration’s record, particularly its investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and human capital development, as the state moves towards the 2027 election.
