Ebebi Urges Sagbama, Ekeremor Voters To Reject Vote Buying, Embrace Peace Ahead Of 2027

Farmer Polycarp Onduakpo Ebebi has called on the people of Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State to protect their votes and resist attempts to buy their conscience during the 2027 general elections.

Ebebi made the call while speaking during a media chat, where he urged voters to view their ballots as a powerful instrument for determining the quality of leadership and representation they want for their communities.

According to him, the value of a vote extends beyond the immediate financial benefit that may be offered during an election, stressing that voters should consider the long-term consequences of their decisions on their families, communities and future generations.

“Your vote is your voice,” he said, while appealing to voters not to exchange their future for temporary financial inducements.

His appeal comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections in Bayelsa West Senatorial District, which comprises Sagbama and Ekeremor LGAs. The district has become a major focus of political discussions ahead of the next Senate election.

Ebebi also appealed particularly to youths across the two local government areas to shun violence and conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the elections.

He emphasized that “election no be war,” urging young people not to allow themselves to be used for political violence, intimidation or destruction of property.

According to him, political disagreements should not be allowed to destroy relationships among brothers, friends, neighbours and communities, noting that the people of Sagbama and Ekeremor would continue to live together irrespective of political differences.

He therefore called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, women, youths and other stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful electoral environment where eligible voters can freely exercise their franchise.

Beyond the issue of elections, Ebebi said his proposed representation would focus on issues directly affecting the people of the senatorial district, including agriculture, youth empowerment, employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, security and economic development.

As a farmer, Ebebi has also placed agriculture and the economic empowerment of rural communities among the areas he says require greater attention, particularly in a region where many residents depend on farming and other local economic activities.

His message to the people of Sagbama and Ekeremor is that the 2027 election should be approached with a focus on accountability, development and the future of the people.

Public reports have listed Polycarp Onduakpo Ebebi among the political figures being positioned for the Bayelsa West senatorial contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Bayelsa West contest has also generated broader discussions about representation and the longstanding political relationship between Sagbama and Ekeremor, including calls from some stakeholders for greater consideration of Ekeremor in the rotation of the senatorial seat. These remain matters of political debate among stakeholders in the district.

For Ebebi, however, the central message is the need for voters to safeguard their mandate, reject violence and make their choices based on the issues that matter most to their communities.

He maintained that leadership should be about service to the people and that the prosperity and wellbeing of Sagbama and Ekeremor should remain at the centre of political engagement ahead of 2027.

His message is simple: protect your vote, protect your future, and let peace prevail.
