BIBI Challenges Osifo To Produce Client’s EC9 Affidavit In Court, Says Dates Will Reveal All
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Edo South, Hon. Sunny Aguebor BIBI, has challenged lawyer Uhuekpema Isaiah Osifo to produce before the court the Form EC9 and accompanying affidavit of his client, Mrs. Epelle-Asemota Osayuki Bridget, for proper scrutiny.
The challenge followed recent claims by Osifo concerning the authenticity of the Form EC9 submitted in relation to BIBI’s candidacy for the 2027 Edo South Senatorial election.
BIBI, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, maintained that his nomination documents were formally transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the NDC National Working Committee (NWC) after the party’s senatorial primary.
He acknowledged Osifo’s position that political parties are responsible for uploading candidates’ Form EC9 to INEC, but said the critical issue was whether the NDC officially communicated BIBI’s nomination documents to the electoral commission.
According to BIBI, INEC received the party’s correspondence and acknowledged the documents with official stamps. He added that the relevant correspondence would be produced before the court at the appropriate time.
He further directed attention to the affidavits accompanying the EC9 documents, insisting that the dates contained in the sworn documents would help establish the chronology and authenticity of the submissions.
“The affidavit dates will reveal all,” BIBI stated, urging the public to examine the documents published by INEC on August 1, 2026, particularly the affidavit attached to his Form EC9.
He alleged that names belonging to other individuals were subsequently inserted into documents containing his particulars after the party primary had been conducted and its result communicated to INEC.
BIBI said the circumstances surrounding the alleged alterations or insertion of names were matters for the court to determine, stressing that he was prepared to allow the judicial process to establish the facts.
The development comes amid an ongoing dispute within the Edo South chapter of the NDC over the senatorial ticket. Earlier reports have documented protests by some party members who opposed BIBI’s emergence and called for recognition of other aspirants, while the Edo State NDC has separately maintained that Epelle-Asemota Osayuki Bridget is its candidate.
BIBI, however, said he remained confident in the validity of his candidacy and disclosed that he was in possession of relevant INEC correspondence and certified true copies of documents connected to the matter.
He also said legal steps would be taken against individuals he accused of forgery and criminal impersonation, adding that those allegations would be subjected to due process and determined by the appropriate authorities.
The NDC candidate specifically challenged Osifo to make his client’s EC9 affidavit available for comparison with BIBI’s sworn affidavit, particularly the dates contained in both documents.
He urged supporters across the seven local government areas of Edo South to remain calm and focused, assuring them that the controversy would ultimately be resolved through the courts.
BIBI reaffirmed his commitment to the NDC and expressed confidence that the judicial process would establish the facts surrounding the disputed nomination documents and determine the legitimate candidate of the party for Edo South.
