2027: Bibi Unveils Plan To Transform Edo South Through ‘Prosperity Through Service’
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Edo South Senatorial Candidate for the 2027 general elections, Hon. Sunny “Bibi” Aguebor, has unveiled his vision for the senatorial district, promising to pursue job creation, improved healthcare, quality education, infrastructure development and enhanced security if elected.
Aguebor said his decision to contest the Edo South Senatorial seat was driven by a lifelong commitment to public service and a desire to harness the untapped potential of the people of the district.
Speaking on his motivation, the NDC candidate said his experiences in business, philanthropy and grassroots political mobilisation had exposed him to the challenges confronting ordinary people and strengthened his determination to seek elective office.
He said his aspiration was not motivated by personal wealth or political status, but by a desire to provide effective representation and deliver measurable results to the people of Edo South.
According to him, the 2027 election provides an opportunity for the people of the district to demand purposeful leadership and move away from what he described as “empty promises” to tangible development.
Aguebor, who described himself as the unanimously elected NDC candidate at the party’s primary, said he was seeking the mandate to “serve, build and transform Edo South.”
Prosperity Through Service
The senatorial hopeful said his campaign philosophy, “Prosperity Through Service,” goes beyond a political slogan, describing it as a governing philosophy that puts the interests of constituents at the centre of leadership.
He said his administration, if elected, would focus on honesty, accessibility and measurable results, with emphasis on economic empowerment, education, healthcare and community development.
“Prosperity Through Service means that the prosperity of our district will be achieved through dedicated, selfless service to every constituent,” Aguebor said.
Jobs, Skills and Youth Empowerment
Aguebor identified youth unemployment as one of the most serious challenges facing Edo South and promised to make economic empowerment a major priority of his representation.
He proposed the establishment of a Constituency Empowerment Office to provide vocational training, skills acquisition and business mentorship for young people across the district.
The proposed programmes, he said, would cover areas including information and communication technology, agriculture, hospitality and renewable energy.
He also pledged to connect unemployed youths with existing entrepreneurship and funding opportunities while pursuing legislative measures capable of encouraging private-sector investment and job creation.
Drawing from his experience in business, including interests in hospitality, petroleum products distribution and real estate, Aguebor said he would seek partnerships with private businesses to create internship and apprenticeship opportunities for young people.
He further promised to advocate for technology and innovation hubs that would equip youths with skills relevant to the modern economy.
Five-Point Development Focus
Aguebor listed youth unemployment, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, poor road networks, declining educational standards and insecurity among the major challenges confronting Edo South.
On infrastructure, he said he would advocate increased federal intervention in road rehabilitation and other infrastructure projects across the district's seven local government areas.
In education, he promised to push for improved school infrastructure, teacher welfare and access to quality education, including scholarship opportunities for indigent students.
For healthcare, he said he would pursue legislative interventions and partnerships aimed at expanding access to medical services and supporting healthcare outreach programmes for vulnerable communities.
On security, Aguebor said he would work with relevant security agencies while supporting legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening community-based security and addressing the root causes of insecurity.
Aguebor Defends NDC Candidacy
The NDC candidate also addressed the controversy surrounding his emergence as the party's Edo South senatorial candidate.
Aguebor maintained that he remains the duly nominated candidate of the NDC, insisting that a valid primary election was conducted and that he emerged victorious.
He said the primary was presided over by the party's Vice Chairman, with returning officers deployed across the seven local government areas of Edo South for the exercise and subsequent collation of results.
According to him, he has obtained a certified copy of the primary election result from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which, he claimed, confirms his victory.
Aguebor attributed the controversy to what he described as an error or alleged manipulation on the INEC portal, where his photograph appeared alongside another name on one page.
He alleged that attempts were made to interfere with documents submitted to the electoral body, while maintaining that the other pages contained his credentials and information.
The NDC candidate said the matter was already before the Federal High Court in Benin and Abuja and expressed confidence that it would ultimately be resolved in his favour.
He also said he had called for the prosecution of those responsible for what he described as attempts to undermine his candidacy.
Aguebor urged NDC members and supporters to remain calm, insisting that the focus should remain on securing quality representation for Edo South.
Accountability Promise
Beyond his campaign promises, Aguebor pledged to establish mechanisms that would allow constituents to monitor his performance if elected.
He promised regular town hall meetings across the seven local government areas, quarterly performance reports and an accessible constituency office where residents could raise concerns and monitor the progress of projects.
He also pledged to engage traditional institutions, community leaders, youth organisations and women's groups in the affairs of his representation.
“All constituency projects will be publicly documented, with clear timelines and milestones, so that constituents can track progress and hold me accountable for delivery,” he said.
Vote for Service, Not Party Logo
Appealing to undecided voters, Aguebor said the 2027 election should be about the future of Edo South rather than party affiliations.
He cited his experience in business, philanthropy and grassroots mobilisation as part of the qualities he believes distinguish him from other contenders.
He also pointed to the activities of the BIBI Foundation in scholarship schemes, youth empowerment and job creation as evidence of his commitment to service.
“I am not seeking this mandate for personal gain. I am already comfortable. I seek it to serve, to build, and to transform Edo South,” he said.
Aguebor called on the people of Edo South to support his vision of “Prosperity Through Service,” promising a new approach to representation anchored on economic empowerment, improved healthcare, quality education, infrastructure, security and accountability.
“I ask for your mandate, your trust, and your vote. Let us build an Edo South that works for all,” he stated.
