₦150m Alleged Deal: Adeleke Linked To Asemota’s Move To Accord Party For Edo South Senate Ticket
Fresh political controversy is brewing in Edo South following allegations that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, may have financially supported the political move of Mrs. Osayuki Epele Asemota to the Accord Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to information attributed to political insiders, Asemota, who had previously been associated with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), allegedly held a private meeting with Governor Adeleke at the Osun State Government House during the last week of August.
Sources described the meeting as a strategic political engagement allegedly focused on securing an alternative political platform for Asemota’s senatorial ambition.
Asemota has reportedly been at the centre of political developments surrounding the Edo South Senatorial contest, amid disagreements and uncertainty over her position within the NDC.
The latest development suggests that she has turned to the Accord Party as a possible platform for pursuing her senatorial ambition.
Sources further alleged that the meeting with Governor Adeleke was facilitated by a former two-term local government chairman from Edo South, who reportedly presented himself as having considerable grassroots influence in the senatorial district.
The most contentious aspect of the allegation is an alleged ₦150 million financial request linked to the political arrangement.
According to an insider said to be familiar with the meeting, the former local government chairman allegedly requested the money to support the establishment of an Accord Party secretariat in Edo South and fund grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, these allegations could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report, and no documentary evidence establishing the alleged payment has been made public.
Accord Party and INEC Process
The development reportedly occurred against the backdrop of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) timetable for political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sources claim that following the alleged discussions, steps were taken to process Asemota’s candidacy under the Accord Party.
There have also been claims that her credentials have been submitted through the appropriate electoral process and that she could emerge as the party’s candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District.
The allegations have generated questions about the circumstances surrounding Asemota’s reported movement from the NDC to the Accord Party and the source of funding for her political activities.
As of publication, neither Governor Ademola Adeleke nor Mrs. Osayuki Epele Asemota has publicly confirmed the alleged ₦150 million arrangement.
The Accord Party has also not publicly provided clarification on the reported financial arrangement or formally confirmed the allegations contained in the claims.
Unless independently substantiated by documentary evidence or statements from the individuals involved, the reported financial deal and the alleged meeting should be treated as allegations rather than established facts.
