Urhobo Voice Must Be Heard In Abuja — Group Urges Support For Ominimini Obiuwevbi
A political advocacy group has called on the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency to support the candidacy of Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi for the House of Representatives, describing him as a strong voice capable of advancing the interests of the Urhobo people at the national level.
The group, in a statement, said the forthcoming election should go beyond partisan politics and focus on securing effective representation and a stronger voice for the constituency and the wider Urhobo Nation in Abuja.
According to the group, the constituency needs a representative who will be vocal on issues affecting the people, engage effectively in national politics and attract meaningful development projects, employment opportunities and other benefits to the constituency.
It described Chief Obiuwevbi as a pragmatic and inclusive leader, stressing that his leadership philosophy transcends ethnic and sectional interests.
The statement noted that Obiuwevbi currently serves as the 3rd National Vice President of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), describing the position as evidence of the confidence reposed in him by the apex socio-cultural organisation of the Urhobo people.
The group also highlighted Obiuwevbi's role as Chairman of the campaign for the creation of Ethiope State, saying his advocacy for the proposed state reflects his commitment to the political and developmental aspirations of the Urhobo people.
It argued that the creation of Ethiope State would bring government closer to the people, create opportunities for employment and development, and strengthen the political representation of the Urhobo people.
The group further appealed to youths, women, students, elders, civil servants, market men and women, and other residents of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu to unite behind Obiuwevbi's candidacy.
It said electing him would provide an opportunity for the constituency to send a representative to the National Assembly who would actively articulate its interests and advocate for projects and opportunities for the people.
"Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi will not go to Abuja to warm a chair. He will go there to negotiate, to argue and to bring home projects, jobs and opportunities for our youths, women and communities," the group stated.
The group urged constituents to support Obiuwevbi, stressing that the time had come for the people to speak with one voice and demand effective representation.
