Gov. Alia Commends Security Agencies For Swift Response To Ukum Attack

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, has commended security agencies for their prompt response to an attack on communities in Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, was carried out by suspected terrorists masquerading as herdsmen. The assailants reportedly invaded communities including Mbaterem in Ayaba, Ikpur, Yina, Aboajio and Ukpen, all in Mbazun Ward, leaving some residents dead and others injured.

Governor Alia expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attack and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing the necessary support to security agencies to enable them effectively protect the people and communities of the state.

The governor also warned those seeking to undermine the ongoing peace process in Benue, stressing that his administration would not be intimidated into abandoning its responsibility to protect the people and their ancestral lands.

«“Benue lands for Benue people. Anyone who thinks attacking us will intimidate us to leave the land is making a mistake,” Governor Alia said.»

He added, “I took an oath to protect our people, and I will not relent. I must appreciate the fact that the Federal Government is advancing a lot of support for us to tackle these acts of terrorism.”

Governor Alia urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities within their communities, noting that timely information remains crucial to preventing attacks and apprehending criminals.

“Like I always say, you must all remain vigilant and always ensure that you forward information on suspicious movements around you. This is the only way we can effectively tackle these criminals,” he said.

The governor further charged security agencies to sustain their presence and mount strategic positions across the state to effectively confront what he described as unrelenting enemies of the state.

He assured the people of Benue that his administration would continue to deploy all available resources and work closely with security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the state.
