The Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, has donated the sum of N1 million towards the funding of an independent electricity plant project at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Aiguobarueghian made the donation on August 30, 2025, as part of his support for initiatives aimed at improving electricity supply and enhancing the overall learning environment at the institution.
Speaking on the gesture, the lawmaker, who is an alumnus of the University of Benin, said he was particularly delighted to contribute to the development of an institution that played an important role in his educational journey.
According to him, the University of Benin is not only his alma mater but also falls within the constituency he represents, making its development and welfare a matter of personal and public importance to him.
“I am an alumnus of this school and the school is under my constituency. It gives me joy to donate to the enhancement of our school,” Aiguobarueghian said.
The N1 million contribution is specifically targeted at supporting the university's efforts to establish an independent electricity plant, an initiative expected to strengthen power supply and contribute to a more conducive academic environment for students, lecturers and other members of the university community.
The Majority Leader's intervention underscores the importance of collaboration between elected representatives and educational institutions in addressing critical infrastructure needs.
The donation also reflects Aiguobarueghian's commitment to supporting the development of institutions within his constituency, particularly initiatives capable of contributing to improved education and sustainable development.
