Aguiobarueghian Celebrates Ovia Youths On International Youth Day, Reaffirms Commitment To Youth Development

Hon. Charity Iguodala Aguiobarueghian, member representing Ovia North East Constituency 1 in the Edo State House of Assembly and the NDC candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, has congratulated youths across Ovia on the occasion of the 2026 International Youth Day.

International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, is being celebrated this year under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Aguiobarueghian said the theme aptly reflects the realities and aspirations of young people across Ovia, noting that although youths face different challenges depending on their communities and circumstances, they share common aspirations for dignity, opportunity and a better future.

He explained that while young farmers in communities such as Okada and Uhen may require improved access to markets, modern agricultural practices and mechanised equipment, graduates in Udo and Iguobazuwa are seeking meaningful employment opportunities that match their skills and qualifications.

According to him, young people in areas such as Isiohor and Oluku are equally looking for reliable electricity and internet access, as well as opportunities to transform innovative ideas into viable businesses.

“Different contexts, yes; but one common aspiration: dignity, opportunity, and an Ovia and Nigeria that works for everyone,” he said.

The lawmaker stressed that youth development must go beyond speeches and promises, urging governments at all levels to translate commitments into sound policies, practical programmes, meaningful projects and genuine partnerships.

He said he had continued to advocate skills acquisition programmes, support for young entrepreneurs, improved educational opportunities and legislative attention to primary healthcare and other critical sectors affecting the future of young people.

Aguiobarueghian also called for greater youth participation in decision-making, stressing that young people who are directly affected by government policies should have a voice and a seat at the table where such policies are formulated.

He described the energy, creativity, resilience and innovation of Ovia youths as valuable assets to the constituency, Edo State and Nigeria, stressing that young people should not be viewed merely as leaders of tomorrow but as important stakeholders in governance and development today.

“Government must meet you halfway by creating the enabling environment for you to thrive, and I remain committed to being a strong bridge between our youths and the corridors of power,” he said.

Aguiobarueghian urged Ovia youths to remain united in their pursuit of a prosperous, peaceful, inclusive and just society where every young person has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

He wished youths across Ovia a happy International Youth Day and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies and initiatives that would improve their opportunities and quality of life.
