Supporters Back Omosede Igbinedion's 2027 Re-Election Bid, Cite Legislative Experience and Grassroots Impact
Supporters of the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion, have intensified their campaign for her re-election ahead of the 2027 General Elections, describing her as an experienced legislator whose record of service has positively impacted communities across the constituency.
In a statement issued by Team Omosede Media, the supporters described Igbinedion as "a trusted voice" for the people of Ovia Federal Constituency, stating that her leadership has been defined by people-oriented representation, legislative effectiveness, and a commitment to community development.
According to the statement, the federal lawmaker has facilitated infrastructure projects, empowerment programmes, and constituency interventions aimed at improving the welfare of women, youths, and vulnerable groups while promoting sustainable development across Ovia North-East and Ovia South-West Local Government Areas.
The group maintained that her legislative record reflects a commitment to inclusive governance, adding that her representation has helped attract government presence to underserved communities through developmental initiatives and advocacy in the National Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Igbinedion first made political history in 2015 when she was elected to represent Ovia Federal Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), becoming the youngest female member of Nigeria's House of Representatives during the 8th National Assembly. During her tenure, she served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on House Services and was a member of several strategic committees, including Local Content, Aviation, Downstream Petroleum, Judiciary, and Women in Parliament.
A legal practitioner by profession, Igbinedion holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, and a Master's degree in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Westminster. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007 after completing her studies at the Nigerian Law School.
Born on May 6, 1981, she is the daughter of Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, renowned businessman, educationist, and founder of Igbinedion University, Nigeria's first private university.
Following her defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024, Igbinedion returned to the House of Representatives after winning the by-election conducted to fill the vacancy created by the election of Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa as Deputy Governor of Edo State. She has since emerged as the APC's candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Beyond politics, the lawmaker is widely recognized for her philanthropic activities through the Omosede Igbinedion Foundation, which focuses on educational support, women's empowerment, youth development, poverty alleviation, and rural community development. Her initiatives include scholarship programmes for underprivileged students, particularly young girls, and support for community-based development projects.
The supporters expressed confidence that her experience and achievements make her the right candidate to continue representing the constituency.
"As the 2027 General Elections draw closer, the message from Ovia is clear: one good term deserves another. The progress we have started must continue, the voice we trust must be strengthened, and the future we are building together must be secured," the statement read.
The group urged eligible voters across Ovia Federal Constituency to support Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion's re-election bid on the platform of the APC, expressing optimism that another term would enable her to consolidate ongoing development efforts and deliver greater dividends of democracy to the people.
