Labour Party Chieftain Highlights Nigeria's Prosperity, Commends Tinubu's Reforms, Expresses Confidence Ahead Of 2027
A member of the National Steering Committee of the Labour Party (LP), Evang. (Hon.) Chinedu Jude Eloka, has called for renewed patriotism and a return to productive governance, describing Nigeria as a nation richly endowed with abundant human and natural resources capable of driving sustainable development.
In a statement titled "The Prosperity of Nigeria and Her Creative Envoys of Positiveness," Eloka reflected on Nigeria's political and constitutional evolution, arguing that the country's prosperity was originally anchored on the principles of the 1963 Republican Constitution, which emphasized local production, agriculture, and resource-driven economic growth.
According to him, Nigeria's founding fathers envisioned a self-reliant nation where investments in agriculture, mineral resources, and local industries would guarantee economic prosperity and improve the welfare of citizens.
Eloka expressed the view that the interruption of democratic governance by successive military administrations altered the country's developmental trajectory, weakened democratic institutions, and contributed to the challenges confronting the nation today.
He also paid tribute to the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, describing him as a statesman who sought to restore the ideals of true federalism and democratic governance through his widely acclaimed 1993 presidential campaign. Eloka said Abiola's vision was centred on mass-oriented development and economic empowerment.
The Labour Party stalwart further highlighted what he described as Nigeria's "creative envoys of positiveness"—individuals whose contributions have impacted the nation's political, cultural, economic, and leadership landscape. Among those he mentioned were President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the late Aminu Kano, the late Chinua Achebe, K.O. Mbadiwe, David Adeleke (Davido), Anslem Eragbe, Darlington Nwokocha, and himself.
Commenting on the current administration, Eloka commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for pursuing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He acknowledged that the reforms had come with significant challenges but expressed optimism that they were beginning to yield positive results, citing signs of economic stability and improved prospects for national development.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, Eloka predicted that the presidential contest would be primarily between President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke.
He also applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for sustaining democratic processes and encouraging greater political participation, describing peaceful electoral succession as a hallmark of Nigeria's democratic maturity.
The Labour Party chieftain urged emerging political parties to emulate what he described as the Labour Party's transparent and democratic internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Eloka further congratulated the party's national leadership, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), as well as the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders for their commitment to strengthening the party.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to continue supporting democratic governance while praying for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country. He also called on citizens to support the Labour Party in future elections, expressing confidence that the party remains committed to building a better Nigeria.
