Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in its efforts to maintain peace and security, while commending the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his leadership and achievements since assuming office.

Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff to Government House, Port Harcourt, ahead of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration scheduled to hold in Rivers State.

The governor congratulated Lt.-Gen. Shaibu on what he described as his remarkable accomplishments within a short period in office, expressing confidence that his leadership would further strengthen the Nigerian Army and enhance its operational effectiveness.

Fubara pledged sustained collaboration with military formations operating in Rivers State, assuring the Army Chief that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to enable troops to carry out their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

«"We owe you our support and collaboration to ensure that your officers operating here succeed. Whatever is needed for them to succeed, as a government, we will support them," the governor said.»

He further assured the Army of the state's full backing for the Army Day Celebration, noting that upgrading facilities for the event was part of his administration's responsibility.

The governor commended the General Officer Commanding, the Commander of Bori Camp, and other military personnel for their dedication to maintaining peace and security across Rivers State.

Fubara also credited the Nigerian Army's sustained operations against pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft for the country's rising crude oil production and improved revenue.

According to him, the military's efforts have significantly curtailed illegal oil activities, resulting in increased oil output and greater economic benefits for the nation.
