Delta Govt Approves 50 CNG Buses, Electric Vehicles, Mega Bus Terminal
The Delta State Government has approved the procurement of 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, the acquisition of electric vehicles, and the construction of a mega bus terminal in Asaba as part of efforts to improve public transportation across the state.
The approvals were granted during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Friday, marking another step in the government's drive to provide safer, more affordable, and efficient transportation services for residents.
According to the government, the new CNG buses will strengthen the MORE Mass Transit Scheme by expanding access to reliable public transport while reducing transportation costs for commuters. The introduction of electric vehicles is also expected to promote cleaner and more environmentally sustainable mobility across the state.
In addition, EXCO approved the construction of a modern mega bus terminal in Asaba, which will serve as the central hub of the state's mass transit system. The facility is expected to enhance passenger convenience, improve operational efficiency, and support the growing transportation needs of the state capital.
The government further disclosed that plans are underway to develop a similar bus terminal in Warri, aimed at expanding the mass transit infrastructure and improving connectivity between major urban centres in Delta State.
The approvals underscore the state government's commitment to modernising public transportation, improving commuter experience, and promoting sustainable urban mobility through strategic infrastructure investments.
