2027: NDC Urges Kwarans To Reject Godfatherism, Back Credible Candidates

The Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on residents of the state to reject godfatherism, incompetence and what it described as failed leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging voters to support the party's candidates across the state.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Comrade Ibraheem Alfa Abdulrasheed Gbagba, the party said Kwarans should reflect on the state's political journey and make a deliberate choice in favour of competence, credibility and people-oriented leadership.

According to the statement, the people of Kwara have, for decades, faced challenges including poor governance, underdevelopment, unemployment, inadequate infrastructure and limited economic opportunities.

The party noted that the emergence of the "O To Ge" movement reflected the people's desire for change and a better future. However, it argued that changing political parties alone is not enough to guarantee good governance, stressing that the state requires leaders with competence, character, capacity, compassion and a clear understanding of governance.

Describing the current political moment as another defining period in the state's history, the NDC said it has presented candidates with the experience, integrity, vision and commitment needed to move Kwara forward.

The party maintained that its candidates emerged through democratic processes and enjoy the confidence and support of their respective communities.

The NDC also urged voters to reject political godfatherism, the imposition of candidates, incompetence, self-serving politics and the recycling of politicians it blamed for the state's developmental challenges.

"The future of Kwara belongs to the people, not to a select few individuals who believe political power is their personal inheritance," the statement said.

It further pledged to build a state where governance serves the interests of all citizens through youth empowerment, support for farmers, improved healthcare, quality education, economic growth and prudent management of public resources.

The party added that it remains committed to promoting a political culture founded on service, integrity and people-centred governance, while acknowledging the support of national political figures, including Senator Seriake Dickson, Mr. Peter Obi and Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The NDC called on youths, women, traditional institutions, professionals, artisans, traders, students and community leaders to unite in support of the party's candidates during the 2027 elections.

Reaffirming its commitment to a better future for the state, the party urged residents to reject what it described as political criminality, incompetence and anti-people policies, insisting that Kwara deserves responsible leadership capable of delivering sustainable development.
