Nwifuru's Massive Investment In Basic Education Transforming Learning Across Ebonyi — Nwedu

The Ebonyi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming basic education through massive investments in infrastructure, digital learning and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities across the state.

The ongoing education reforms, being implemented under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's People's Charter of Needs agenda, include the construction of 56 modern Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) 12-classroom storey buildings spread across the 13 local government areas of the state.
The projects are designed to replace dilapidated school structures with modern learning facilities equipped with administrative offices and toilet facilities, providing pupils with safe, comfortable and conducive environments for learning.

Beyond classroom infrastructure, the administration is also expanding access to digital education through the installation of more than 5,000 computer sets in public schools to enhance digital literacy among pupils.

As part of efforts to improve hygiene and public health in schools, the government is equally providing 75 boreholes and 24 overhead water tanks to guarantee access to clean and safe water in basic education institutions across the state.
Speaking on the administration's achievements, Nwedu Abraham Nwedu, a member of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS), said Governor Nwifuru was laying enduring foundations that would positively shape the future of education in Ebonyi State.

According to him, "Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is laying legacies that will remain for generations through his unprecedented investment in basic education. From modern classroom blocks to digital learning facilities and clean water projects, the administration has demonstrated that quality education remains a top priority."

He added that the governor's commitment extends beyond infrastructure to sustainable funding of the education sector, noting that the state has consistently met its counterpart funding obligations for Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention programmes.
Nwedu further highlighted that the Ebonyi State Government allocated ₦175.89 billion to education in its 2026 budget, representing 19.86 per cent of the state's ₦885.81 billion budget.

He noted that the allocation places Ebonyi among the leading education investors in the South-East and aligns with the recommended benchmark for public spending on education.

"There is nowhere in the world where education is not the foundation of progress. The People's Charter of Needs has continued to bring hope and meaningful development to the people of Ebonyi State through deliberate investment in the future of our children," he said.

He called on stakeholders, community leaders and residents across the state to support the government's efforts by monitoring the ongoing projects in their respective local government areas and promoting awareness of the achievements being recorded in the education sector.

The Ebonyi State Government maintains that the sustained investment in education is aimed at ensuring every child has access to quality learning facilities while building a stronger foundation for the state's long-term socio-economic development.
