NDC Youth Wing Demands INEC Clarification Over Alleged Denial Of Candidate Upload Access
The National Youth Wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern over reports alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denied the party access to upload its candidates, describing the development as a potential threat to fairness and transparency in Nigeria's electoral process.
In a press statement signed by the NDC National Youth Wing Coordinator, Hon. Ajodo Onuh, the youth wing stated that if the reports are accurate, such action raises serious concerns about the principles of fairness, transparency, and equal treatment expected of an independent electoral body.
The statement noted that INEC, as the nation's electoral umpire, is constitutionally mandated to discharge its responsibilities without fear, favour, or prejudice, adding that any action capable of hindering the lawful participation of a political party in the democratic process could undermine public confidence in the country's electoral system.
The youth wing called on INEC to immediately clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged denial and ensure that the Nigeria Democratic Congress is granted all rights and opportunities guaranteed under the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
While reaffirming its commitment to democracy, peace, and the rule of law, the NDC National Youth Wing urged its members and supporters across the country to remain calm, orderly, and law-abiding as the party pursues all lawful and constitutional avenues to address the matter.
"The integrity of our democracy depends on fairness, justice, and equal opportunity for every political party," the statement concluded.
