Gboluseri Timipre Samuel Reports: Bayelsa West NDC Stakeholders Reaffirm Unity, Vow to Challenge Court Ruling

Stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bayelsa West have reaffirmed their commitment to the party's unity and democratic principles, declaring that the party remains strong and undeterred despite the recent judgment delivered by a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja on June 26, 2026.

The position was made known during a strategic meeting of party leaders and members held earlier on Saturday, where stakeholders reviewed the implications of the court ruling and resolved to remain steadfast in pursuing the party's political objectives.

Addressing the gathering, the NDC candidate for the Sagbama–Ekeremor Federal Constituency House of Representatives, High Chief Hon. Seles Saboh, assured members that the party remains intact and continues to grow in strength despite recent legal and political developments.

Saboh described the lawsuit instituted by the PMP as politically motivated, alleging that it reflects an attempt to deploy state institutions against opposition parties. He maintained that the case lacks merit and expressed confidence that it would not ultimately succeed.

According to him, the legal action is indicative of what he described as growing concern within the ruling party over the increasing popularity and acceptance of the NDC. He further alleged that attempts have been made to weaken the opposition through inducement and institutional abuse.

Quoting the popular saying, "When you fight corruption, corruption fights back," Saboh said the development had only strengthened the resolve of the NDC, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, to continue defending democratic values and resisting actions the party believes threaten Nigeria's democratic system.

He also assured members that the party would pursue all lawful avenues to seek accountability from any public officials or institutional actors found to have abused their offices, stressing that the NDC remains committed to protecting what it described as the integrity of Nigeria's democracy.

Also speaking at the meeting, Elder Prince Simeon Epebifiye, Deputy Caucus Chairman for Ekeremor Local Government Area, and Hon. Salo Adikunmo, Chairman of the Sagbama Caucus, expressed confidence that the court judgment would be challenged through the appropriate appellate process.

The leaders maintained that the ruling does not affect the operations of the party and reiterated that the NDC remains functional and focused on its political activities.

The stakeholders further criticized what they described as anti-democratic actions by the APC-led Federal Government, alleging that efforts to weaken opposition parties pose a threat to Nigeria's democratic space. They called on Nigerians to remain vigilant in defending democratic institutions and safeguarding citizens' constitutional right to freely choose among competing political parties.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by Bayelsa West NDC stakeholders to remain united, pursue all available legal remedies, and intensify grassroots mobilization in support of the party's democratic ideals.
