Chibuike Chiedo Seeks Abuja South Reps Seat, Unveils Six-point Legislative Agenda

An Associate Professor of Public Relations and New Media, Hon. Dr. Chibuike Casimir Chiedo, KSM, MNIPR, MTRCN, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali Federal Constituency (Abuja South), promising to champion people-oriented legislation and development-focused representation.

Dr. Chiedo, a resident of Kuje Area Council and a seasoned politician, said his decision to seek elective office is driven by a deep commitment to addressing the challenges facing the constituency and improving the lives of its people.

The aspirant highlighted his extensive political experience, having served as Ward Chairman and Local Government Chairman under the ACN/APC, a two-term Councillor, and a former Member of the House of Assembly. He noted that he voluntarily stepped aside from elective office in the past to create opportunities for others to contribute to public service.

A university lecturer and public relations expert based in Abuja, Dr. Chiedo expressed confidence in his broad support base across academic institutions in the Federal Capital Territory, including lecturers, student leaders and non-academic staff, whom he said believe in his vision and leadership capacity.

According to him, the constituency requires a representative who understands governance, party administration and the legislative process, adding that his experience places him in a strong position to effectively serve the people.

As part of his legislative agenda, Dr. Chiedo unveiled a six-point programme that will guide his activities in the National Assembly if elected.

Under education, he pledged to sponsor bills aimed at easing the burden on parents through support for school fees and external examination fees, including BECE, WAEC, NECO and NABTEB. He also advocated free education from Basic One to Senior Secondary School in public schools, improved welfare for teachers, continuous professional development and the introduction of technology-driven curricula to replace outdated learning systems.

On healthcare, the aspirant proposed reforms that would strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services. He said public office holders should be encouraged to utilize primary healthcare centres within their communities to drive improvements in service delivery and infrastructure.

For infrastructure development, Dr. Chiedo promised to attract investments and industries to the constituency, facilitate the provision of prepaid electricity meters and transformers, support the deployment of CNG-powered buses within the FCT, and advocate for road construction and affordable housing schemes.

In the agricultural sector, he pledged to promote food security through the provision of modern farming equipment, improved seedlings and other interventions aimed at increasing agricultural productivity.

He also outlined plans for sustainable empowerment programmes targeted at youths, women and vulnerable groups. According to him, his empowerment model would focus on practical skills acquisition and economic self-reliance under the principle of "one person, two skills."

On party administration, Dr. Chiedo proposed improved welfare packages, including salaries and allowances for party officials, in recognition of their contributions to grassroots political development.

Reaffirming his commitment to quality representation, he assured constituents that he would remain accessible, accountable and dedicated to advancing their interests at the National Assembly.

He called on eligible party members and supporters to register with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the party's primary election, urging them to support his aspiration.

Dr. Chiedo expressed optimism that with the support of the people, Abuja South can witness accelerated development and greater opportunities for all residents.

"I am passionate about fixing our constituency and improving the lives of our people. Together, we can build a better future and deliver the dividends of effective representation," he stated.
