Aiguobasinmwin Movement Endorses Palace Security Initiative, Mobilises Youth Vigilance Teams
The Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide has thrown its weight behind the recent directive of the Benin Palace aimed at strengthening community security across the kingdom through coordinated grassroots vigilance and intelligence gathering.
In a statement jointly signed by the President of the movement, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture; Assistant Secretary, Mr. Uhunoma Ewere Lucky; and Diaspora Coordinator, Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen, JP, the group called on Okaigheles and prominent youth leaders in various communities to immediately implement the directive issued by the revered Monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, the Oba of Benin.
According to the statement, community leaders are expected to inaugurate between five and ten fearless, disciplined and law-abiding youths in their respective communities to serve as vigilance teams dedicated to promoting safety and security.
The movement explained that the inaugurated youths would function as community watch personnel responsible for providing early warnings on suspicious movements, supporting farmers and traders with timely intelligence, and reporting security concerns to relevant authorities.
It further stated that information gathered by the vigilance teams would be channelled through the Okao Noreguae, who would relay reports to the Benin Palace for onward transmission to security agencies, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Edo State Security Network.
The Aiguobasinmwin Movement emphasized that the initiative is strictly a peace and community security support programme and does not authorize the use of arms, force, or any form of jungle justice.
“The objective is to secure our communities through unity, lawful conduct, and collaboration with constituted security agencies,” the statement noted.
The group urged community leaders and youths to embrace the initiative as a collective responsibility aimed at safeguarding lives, property, and economic activities across the kingdom.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the Benin throne, the movement concluded with the traditional salutation: “Oba Edo Ghato Kpere, Ise.”
