Youth Group Urges Fubara To Seek Re-Election, Cites Performance, Stability In Rivers
A pro-youth advocacy group, the Citizens’ Youth Movement for Sim (CYM-S), has called on the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to seek re-election, citing what it described as “remarkable leadership, stability, and people-oriented governance” under his administration.
In a statement jointly signed by its Secretary-General, ThankGod Esuuk, and Coordinator, Comrade Dagogo Achese, the group said its position followed a “thorough and honest assessment” of the current administration, which it noted has kept the state on a steady path of progress despite political tensions.
The group commended Governor Fubara’s handling of political challenges, highlighting his “restraint, maturity, and commitment to peace” as key factors that have prevented instability in the state.
“Even amid serious political tensions, the Governor consistently chose peace over provocation, maturity over conflict, and governance over distractions,” the statement read.
According to CYM-S, Rivers State has witnessed sustained peace and security, which has in turn created an enabling environment for businesses and reassured residents of their safety.
The group also pointed to ongoing infrastructure development across the state, including major road projects such as the Ahoada–Omoku Road dualisation, the Egbeda–Omerelu Link Road, the Elele–Egbeda–Ikiri–Omoku Dual Carriage Road, and the Port Harcourt Ring Road, among others.
It further highlighted investments in healthcare and education, referencing improvements at the Ahoada Zonal Hospital and the construction and rehabilitation of schools, including Government Secondary School, Koroma in Tai Local Government Area.
CYM-S noted that the administration has maintained prompt payment of salaries and pensions, while also supporting youth empowerment initiatives through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment.
The group added that local contractors and small businesses have benefited from government patronage, contributing to economic growth and job creation within the state.
Describing the governor’s style as “responsible and people-oriented,” the group said his respect for democratic institutions and the rule of law has strengthened governance structures in Rivers State.
Based on these achievements, CYM-S issued a “strong and passionate call” for Governor Fubara to present himself for re-election, arguing that continuity is essential to sustaining the gains already recorded.
“This is not merely a political appeal; it is a clarion call driven by the need to protect the prevailing peace and accelerate ongoing progress,” the statement added.
The group also urged youths, community leaders, women, and other stakeholders across Rivers State to remain united and actively participate in the democratic process, while rejecting divisive politics.
It concluded that the state stands at a critical point where decisions taken now will shape its future, stressing that continuity in leadership would help consolidate ongoing development efforts.
“Let us choose peace over chaos, progress over setbacks, and continuity over uncertainty,” the group stated.
