The Independent National Electoral t (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for its third and final phase, scheduled to begin on Monday, May 11, 2026.
In a press statement issued on May 5, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the exercise will run until Friday, July 10, 2026, providing eligible Nigerians with another opportunity to register ahead of future elections.
INEC recalled that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to enable the Commission carry out a comprehensive clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.
According to the statement, the final phase is open to citizens who have recently attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during earlier phases. The Commission also urged already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal information to take advantage of the exercise.
Affected individuals can access the Commission’s online portal or visit INEC offices at the state and local government levels nationwide to complete the process.
INEC further announced that the updated Register of Voters will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026. The Commission noted that this period allows citizens to file claims and objections, contributing to the accuracy and credibility of the voter register.
Reassuring the public of its readiness, INEC stated that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and efficient exercise. The Commission also called on eligible Nigerians to participate actively, emphasizing the importance of voter registration in strengthening the country’s democratic process.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
